SamuelGompershadhelpedcreatetheAFLinthelate1880s.Heledtheorganizationforallbutoneyearuntilhisdeathin1924.Gompersdefined(明确)thepurposeofthelabormovementinAmerica.Healsoestablishedthemethodusedtosolvelabordisputes(纠纷).Gompersthoughtunionsshouldworkonlytoincreasewages,improveworkconditionsandstopunfairtreatmentofworkers.Hecalledhismethodpureandsimpleunionism.

SamuelGomperssought(争取)immediatechangeforworkers.Heusedgroupactionssuchasstrikesasawaytotrytoforcecompanyownerstonegotiate(谈判).
