Unexpectedly,wefoundaninverseassociationbetweenredmeatintakeandendometrialcancer;

thisassociationwasnotattenuatedbyadjustmentforknownriskfactors,suchasbodymassindexormenopausalhormonetherapy,orbyfinecontrolforsmoking,whichhasbeeninverselyassociatedwiththismalignancy.Previousstudieshavereportednullorpositiverelationsbetweenredmeatandendometrialcancer.Wealsoobservedinverseassociationsbetweenprocessedmeatintakeandleukemiaandmelanoma.Incontrasttoourfindings,childhoodleukemiahasbeenpositivelyassociatedwithintakeofprocessedmeatsinacase-controlstudy.

Thisstudywasprimarilylimitedbyitsrelativelysmallsamplesize.Anearlierstartindatacollectionwouldhaveincreasedthetimeneededtosurveymoreparticipants.Ideally,thenumberofparticipantwouldhavebeenmoreevenlydistributedacrossgender/yearinpopulation.Alargersamplewithdiversitywouldhavebenefitedourresults.Otherlimitationsofthisstudyincludedsomedegreeofpossiblemeasurementerrors,althoughweattemptedatminimizingtheerrorinmeasurementandthemeasurementdatacomparedveryfavorablytootherresearches.

Inconclusion,adiethighinredorprocessedmeatwasassociatedwithanelevatedriskofbothcolorectalandlungcancer;
