FamilyplanningexpertsworryinparticularaboutthefuturepopulationexplosioninSubSaharanAfrica.InMay,theUnitedNationsprojectedtheworldpopulationwouldreach9.3billionin2050and10.1billionby2100.MuchofthatgrowthwillcomefromAfrica,wherethepopulationisgrowingat2.3percentayear—morethandoubleAsia’s1percentgrowthrate.Ifthatratestaysconsistent,whichisnotcertain,Africa’spopulationwillreach3.6billionby2100fromthepresent1billion.
