IdasandMarpessaarrivedatariverside.Theyspentthenightinatemplenearby．Whenmorningcame，IdasfoundthatMarpessahadbeenstolenbyApollo,whowasattractedbyherbeauty.Idasdecidedtofightdieforhislove．Apolloheldhisarrows．Idasdrewhissword．Theduelwasabouttostartwhensuddenlytheyheardathunderboltroundabout，andZeushimselfarrivedtostoptheunequalcontest．HegaveMarpessathechoicebetweenimmoralityandeternalgloryononesideandontheotheramortallifeoffaithfullovemixedwithendlesscaresandgrieves.MarpessaturneddownthesweetpromisesofApolloandchoseIdas.Apolloleftwithdisappointment.

玛彭莎是国王伊万诺斯的独生女，她高贵优雅。

国王提出：
