有时候句子中没有时间状语，用什么时态要根据具体内容判断；
某些时间状语用什么时态要根据句子的上下文判断，用一般过去时表示动作的完成，用过去进行时表示的持续进行。
与一般过去时的区别
过去进行时表示过去某时正在进行的动作。
一般过去时表示一个完成的动作。

（信写完了）

（信不一定写完）

◇as用作连词引导时间状语从句
as与when，while都是引导时间状语从句的从属连词，含义都是“当……的时候”。
但它们有区别：
用when时，从句的动作既可是延续性动作，也可是非延续性动作。
从句的动作可以与主句的动作同时发生，也可以先于主句的动作发生；
用while时，从句的动作必须为延续性动作，主句动作与从句动作同时进行或在从句动作过程中发生；
用as时，主句和从句的动作同时发生，具有延续的含义。
例如：
Whenhewasatcollege,hecouldspeakseveralforeignlanguages.
HewaswatchingTVwhilehismotherwascooking.他母亲做饭时他在看电视。
Youwillgrowwiserasyougrowolder.你会随着年龄的增长而越来越聪明。
Whentheclockstrucktwelve,allthelightsinthestreetwentout.
Workwhileyouwork.Playwhileyouplay.
但下列情形只用as,而不用when或while。
用于表示同一个人的两种动作交替进行，指“一边……，一边……”。

表示两个同步发展的动作或行为，译为“随着……”。
