Tocometotheirconclusion,theteamstudieda46-year-oldwomanwhoisonlyusuallyabletofallasleepat2or3inthemorning.

Itwasdiscoveredthatthewoman’sbodyproducesthehormone(荷尔蒙)thathelpsussleepatnightuptosevenhourslaterthanregularsleepers.Thescientistsfoundthiswascausedbyamutationinoneofthewoman’sgene,onethathelpsregulate(调节)the“bodyclock”.

Someofthewoman’sfamilymemberswerealsofoundtosharethesamemutation–andthesamesleepingproblems–leadingthescientiststobelievethatsleeptroublesarepasseddownthroughthegenerations.

However,havingthismutationdoesn’tmeanyouautomaticallyhavesleepproblems.Theteamalsofoundtwopeoplewhohadthemutationbutreportednoproblemswiththeirsleep.

Butwhilethisisaninterestingdiscovery,itoffersnohelptothosewhocan’tfallasleepatnight–althoughthereareafewthingsyoucouldtrytohelpyousleepearlier.
