Anaircraftengineisthecomponentofthepropulsionsystemforanaircraftthatgeneratesmechanicalpower.Aircraftenginesarealmostalwayseitherlightweightpistonenginesorgasturbines.

2.Whatdoyouknowaboutaircraftengine?

Mostofmodernpassengerandmilitaryaircraftarepoweredbygasturbineengines,whicharealsocalledjetengines.Thereareseveraltypesofjetengines,butalljetengineshavesomepartsincommon.Aircraftgasturbineenginescanbeclassifiedaccordingtopowerusageproducesbytheengine.

Theturbojetengine:

Turbojetenginederivesitsthrustbyhighlyacceleratingamassofair,allofwhichgoesthroughtheengine.Sinceahigh"jet"velocityisrequiredtoobtainanacceptableofthrust,theturbineofturbojetisdesignedtoextractonlyenoughpowerfromthehotgasstreamtodrivethecompressorandaccessories.Allofthepropulsiveforce（100%ofthrust）producedbyajetenginederivedfromexhaustgas.

Theturbopropengine:

Turbopropenginederivesitspropulsionbytheconversionofthemajorityofgasstreamenergyintomechanicalpowertodrivethecompressor,accessories,andthepropellerload.Theshaftonwhichtheturbineismounteddrivesthepropellerthroughthepropellerreductiongearsystem.Approximately90%ofthrustcomesfrompropellerandaboutonly10%comesfromexhaustgas.

Theturbofanengine:

Turbofanenginehasaductenclosedfanmountedatthefrontoftheengineanddriveneithermechanicallyatthesamespeedasthecompressor,orbyanindependentturbinelocatedtotherearofthecompressordriveturbine.Thefanaircanexitseperatelyfromtheprimaryengineair,oritcanbeductedbacktomixwiththeprimary'sairattherear.Approximatelymorethan75%ofthrustcomesfromfanandlessthan25%comesfromexhaustgas.

Theturboshaftengine:

Turboshaftenginederivesitspropulsionbytheconversionofthemajorityofgasstreamenergyintomechanicalpowertodrivethecompressor,accessories,justliketheturbopropenginebutTheshaftonwhichtheturbineismounteddrivessomethingotherthananaircraftpropellersuchastherotorofahelicopterthroughthereductiongearbox.Theengineiscalledturboshaft

Asarule,theenginesareattachedunderthewings,but,inthecaseofthemodernaircraft,thetwosideenginesaremountedonstrutsoutboardofthefuselage.Thecenterengineismountedaftofthefuselagestructurebelowtheverticalfin.
