Iclaim:

1.Inamethodofproducingasorptivebodyforuseinfilteringairand/orineliminatingodors,providingairfreshening,andthelike,inwhichfinelygroundsolidparticlesofasorptivesubstanceoracompositioncontainingasorptivesubstancearemixedwithabindingagentandaretherebyboundintoacohesivebody,theimprovementcomprising:

combiningsaidfinelygroundsolidparticleswithatleastoneliquidsorbatebeforemixingsaidsolidparticleswithabindingagent,saidsolidparticleshavingporesandcapillariesforabsorbingsaidsorbate,saidsorbatebeingabsorbableinsaidporesandcapillaries,andtheconditionsofsaidcombiningbeingsuchthatsaidsorbateisabsorbedinsaidcapillariesandpores;

mixingsaidcombinedsolidparticlesandabsorbedsorbatewithabindingagentcomprisingasettablebindercompositioninaliquidsolvent,saidbindercompositionbeingsettableuponevaporationofsaidliquidsolventatatemperaturehigherthantheboilingpointofsaidsorbatesoastobindsaidsolidparticlestogetherasacohesivesorptivebody;

shapingsaidmixtureand/orapplyingsaidmixturetoacarrierbodysoastoformacohesivesorptivebodyforuseinfilteringairand/orineliminatingodors,providingairfresheningandthelike;

and,

applyingheattosaidshapedand/orsupportedmixturesoastocauseevaporationofsaidliquidsolventfromsaidmixture,settingofsaidbindercompositionsoastobindsaidsolidparticlestogetherinsaidcohesivesorptivebody,andexpulsionofsaidsorbatefromsaidsolidparticlesduringthesettingofsaidbindercomposition,theamountofsaidbindercompositionnotexceeding30%oftheweightofsaidsorptivesubstanceandtheamountofsaidsorbateexpelledfromsaidsolidparticlesduringsettingofsaidbindercompositionprovidingaconnectedopensystemofporesandcapillariesinsaidbindercompositionforpassageofairthroughsaidcohesivebodyandcontactofsaidairwithsaidsorptivesubstance.

2.Amethodaccordingtoclaim1,characterizedbysupportingsaidmixtureonacarrierbycoatingorimpregnatingaporouscarriermaterialwiththemixtureofclaim1priortotheapplicationofheat.

3.Amethodaccordingtoclaim2,characterizedbytheuseofaporoussyntheticfoam,fleece-likesubstance,orwovenorspunfabricassaidcarriermaterial.

4.Amethodofproducingasorptivebodyaccordingtoclaim1,characterizedbytheuseofatleastoneofthefollowingadsorptivematerialsasasorptivesubstance:

activecarbon,silicagel,amolecularsieve,bentonite,perlite,pumicestone,infusionearth,powderedfoammaterial,capillary-activefibrousmaterial.

5.Amethodaccordingtoclaim4,characterizedbytheuseofhydrocarbon,ofanalcohol(e.g.ethyl,methyl,propylalcohol),anester,anketone,chlorinatedhydrocarbon,fluorocarbonsasasorbate.

6.Amethodaccordingtoclaim5,characterizedbytheuseofthesolventinthebindingagentasasorbate.

7.Amethodaccordingtoclaim6,characterizedbytheuseofasyntheticadhesive,e.g.apolyurethaneadhesive.

8.Amethodaccordingtoclaim1,characterizedbytheadditionofasorbatewithalowboilingpointtoapartofthefinely-groundsolidandofatleastonesorbatewitharelativelyhigherboilingpointtoanotherpartofthegroundsolidcomponent;

11.Amethodaccordingtoclaim8,characterizedbythesamefinely-groundsolidcomponent,e.g.activecarbon,beingusedtotakeupbothsorbates.

18.Theproductmadebythemethodofclaim1toproduceafiltermatand/oranairpurifier,especiallyinkitchenextractor-hoods,air-conditioningdevices,whereinthegranularsorptivebody,e.g.activecarbon,takenupinthebindingagentisfastenedtoacarrier(11,14),e.g.afibrousfleece,foamstrip.

19.Aproductmadebythemethodofclaim11,whereinthegranularsorptivesubstance,e.g.activecarbon,istakenupinthebindingagentisfastenedtoacarrier,e.g.afibrousfleeceorfoamcut-outandwhereinapartofthesorptivesubstanceisimpregnatedwithanaromaticagentwithahighboilingpoint,e.g.perfumeoil,theproductbeingusedasinnersoleofashoeorasanairfreshenerespeciallyinkitchenextractor-hoodsandair-conditioningdevices.

20.Aproductaccordingtoclaim19madebytheadditionalmethodstepoftheadditionofasubstancewhichprovidesadhesiontothesorbatewiththehigherboilingtemperature.

21.Theproductmadebythemethodofclaim10,whereinapartofthehigher-boilingsorbatecontainingabiocidesubstance,e.g.alkyldimethylammoniumchlorideorasolventcontainingsuchasubstance.
