Ithinkthereareprobablythreereasonsfortheirdifferences.First,becauseof
theinfluenceofdifferentsocialandfamilyvalues,Chinesestudentshaveformedthe
habitofaskingformoneyfromtheirparentswhileAmericanstudentshave
developedmoresenseofbeingfinanciallyindependent.Second,mostChinese
parentsdevotetoomuchcaretotheirchildrenandtheywouldrathersaveupto
affordtheirchildren’seducationratherthanencouragethemtotake-timepartjobs.
ButinAmerica,manyparentspaymoreattentiontodevelopingthestudents
ofself-reliance,sotheyencouragetheirchildrentofindpart-timejobtoearnsome
moneybythemselves.Third,sinceAmericaismoredevelopedthanChina,itis
relativelyeasyforstudentstofindparttimejobs.InChina,suchopportunitiesare
ratherrare.
IbelievewiththedevelopmentofChina,moreandmoreChinesestudentswill
realizeandpaymoreattentiontothenecessityofselfdependence.Inaddition,
moreandmoreopportunitieswillbeprovidedforthemtotakepart-timejobs.So
morestudentswillgooutoftheivorytowertobroadentheirknowledgeandto
becomethemasteroftheirownlives.
