THEREwasnohopeforhimthistime:

ThenextmorningafterbreakfastIwentdowntolookatthelittlehouseinGreatBritainStreet.Itwasanunassumingshop,registeredunderthevaguenameofDrapery.Thedraperyconsistedmainlyofchildren'sbooteesandumbrellas;andonordinarydaysanoticeusedtohanginthewindow,saying:
