BedfordCastlewasbuiltinitiallyasafortresstohelpprotectBedfordshireonthesouthoftheRiverOuseafterthepeopleinthelocaltownsandvillageshadalreadybeensubdued.Itwaserectedin919ontheordersofKingEdwardtheElder,althoughitwasdestroyedbyaDanishinvasionyearslater.Thiswaswhenitwasrebuiltasthecastle,ofwhichtheruinsexisttoday!
