1.1ABriefofwhatIamwriting

SincetheChineseopeningpolicyactualizedinChinain1978,Chinakeepsahighspeedofgrowthrate.Brininginandutilizingforeigninvestmentwouldbeoneofthemostimportantstrategiesofbasicnationalpolicies.Puttinginpracticeofthisstrategy,Chinahadresolvedthefundlackingandlowleveloftechnologyandmanagementproblemsineconomyconstruction.UndertheleadershipofChineseleaderDengXiaoping,Chinawastestifiedofthemostamazingeconomictransformationsover20years,anditislikelytogrowinimportancebothpoliticallyandeconomically.

Ontheotherhand,theChineseenteringofWTOin2001alsoplayavitalroleinattractingforeigninvestment.Sincetheearly1990s,theamountofforeigninvestmentthatenteringintoChinahadincreasedsharply.Inthecontinuous6yearsfrom1996to2001,Chinautilizedforeigninvestmentactuallyexceed$40billionperyearandtheaggregatehadexceeded$400billion.In2001,thisnumberreached$billionandachievedbetterlevelsinfollowingyears.

ThischapteranalyzestheparticularprocessandresultsofmyinvestigationincludingthedataanalysisandeconomicphenomenaandtheireffectswhichthebusinessesIchoosefortheinvestigation.Methodologyisatooltocollectandanalyzeboththeprimarydataandsecondarydata.AndthedetailedmethodsIusearethequestionnaireandsurveyandalsotelephone-interviewtoobtaindirectinformation.InordertopresentthebetterunderstandingtoreadersonwhatIfound,thefollowingsubheadingwouldexhibittheinformationclearly:

●Thegeneralpolicybackgroundonthemultinationals’economicandinvestenvironmentinChina.

●ThereasonsthatoverseasinvestmentcomeintoChinesemarket.

●WhatkindofimpactsthemultinationalstransferredtoChina.

Theprobableresultsofmyinvestigationexhibittheimpacts（goodeffectsmostly）inChinesemulti-aspects,whichconsistofnationaleconomy,personallivelihoodandfirms’development,etc.UndertheprefectChineseeconomicdevelopment,themorethan20yearscorrectpoliciesandappropriateinvestmentenvironmentplayedasignificantrole.ThroughtheprincipalresearchesofCoca-ColasysteminChina,thereaderscouldeasyfigureoutthechangesinChinabyarepresentativefirm.

LiteratureReview

TheNinthChineseInternationalInvestmentandTradeConference,whichhadinvitedthedeputydirectorofCommerceSecretaryYuanyuanGao（2005,accessedatwhoarguesthatChinaadapttothenewsituationofworldeconomicdevelopment,exploitforeigninvestmentlogically,effectivelyandpositively.Now,Chinahadagreaterpowerinattractingforeigninvestmentyearbyyear,andthecurrentpoliciesusedinfetchingforeigninvestmentincludethreemostimportantaspects,whichareimprovingthelegalenvironmentforFDI,maintainingtheconsummatemarketenvironmentandguidingmoreforeigncompaniesintoChina.FromthisconferenceofChinesegovernment,IcanrealizetheChineseeconomicsituationissuitforforeigninvestmentverymuchanditactuallyhasgainedmanyinvestmentsinpastseveraldecades.ThecurrentpoliciesappliedinforeigninvestmentbringmorebenefitstoChina,suchastheupswingofemploymentrate,livingstandardandChineseGDP.

TherearemanyelementscouldinfluencetheflowdirectionofFDI.Accordingtothe“InvestmentAnalysis”whichprovidedby“MarketModernization”（ZhaoandMou,2007）,themarketenvironmentsplayaveryimportantroleinwhethertheforeigncompaniesinvestinChina.First,Chinahadexperiencesoffastandstableeconomicgrowthoverpast20yearsandChinahasagreatincreaseinpurchasepowerinthisperiod.Chinanowbecameahugeandperfectlyergasticconsumermarketintheworld.AndChinaplaysaveryvitalpartinmultinational’sglobalstrategy.Inaddition,theyalsosubmitthesecondpoint;

theinvestmentenvironmentisamixtureofmultipleelements.Thenaturalandlongtermelementscalledhardwareenvironment,buttheman-madeelementscalledsoftwareenvironment.Theman-madeenvironmentsmainlyindicatethepolicyenvironment,legislationenvironmentandmarketenvironment.ThiselementmostlyincludesenteringofFDI,actualizingofnationaltreatment,examineandapproveforFDIfromgovernment,foreignexchangepolicies,financingenvironment,taxationpolicies,financepoliciesandimportsandexportspolicies,etc.GoodinvestmentenvironmentinChinahaveactedanexampletotheworld,currentlyChinaisthecountrythatattractingthemostFDIinrecentyears.MystudywillfigureoutthedetailedinformationthatsupportsthehardwareandsoftwareeconomicenvironmentinChineseinvestmentmarket,andhowtheybenefittoChinaandforeigninvestors.

InvestigationStructure

Myinvestigationisorganizedasfollows.Chapter1showsthereadersadetailedbriefwhichincludesinvestigationtitle,contentsandmethodology,etc.Chapter2explainsthetotaltimescaleinmyinvestigation.Chapter3discussestheintroduction,literaturereviewandmethodologywhatIusedinmystudy.Chapter4presentsadetailedanalysiswhichcontentofcaseaboutCoca-Cola.Atlast,Chapter5considerstheevaluationofthiswholeinvestigation.

Methodology

Thispartoutlinestheanalysisoftheadoptedmethodologyformycurrentinvestigation.“Methodologyreferstotheoverallapproachtotheresearchprocess,fromthetheoreticalunderpinningtothecollectionandanalysisofthedata”.（CollisandHussey,2005:

55）CollectingboththeprimarydataandsecondarydataIusedifferenttoolstolayouttheresearchestoreaders.Thesecondarydatamayhavealotofsourcessuchasjournals,magazines,newspaper,businessreviews,referencebooksandtheInternet.MostofmyliteraturesearchwasfromthecollegelibrarybasedinCentreSouthUniversityofForestandTechnology,somelittleothersfromthelibraryofChangshaCityandsomebookstores.Magazineandjournalalsogivemesomeinformationtosupportmyinvestigation.Mostly,Iconsultplentyofinformationfromtheinternet,thenchoosethefavorabledataandusedinmystudy.

Thecollectionofprimarydatamayusebydifferenttools;

theyconsistofinterviewandquestionnaire.Quantitativeresearchandqualitativeresearchhavebeenpresentedtotheascendantstrategyformanagingbusinessresearch.（BrymanandBell,2003）Theuseofinterviewisatypicaldatacollectiontooltoqualitativeresearchapproach,washelpmetoreceivemydirectmaterialsfrommyadoptedinvestigatefirms.However,thismethodhasitsowndrawbacksincludetheexpensiveexpensesandtime-consuming.Especiallyiftherearealargeamountofdataisneededtoreceivefromthemanagers.Bymyself,Ichoosethetelephone-interviewtooffsetthedrawbacksofdirectinterviewtofirm’smanager.Throughtelephone-interviewtoamanagerofCoca-Colamarketingdepartment,Ihavegottherelatedmulti-aspectsofCoca-Cola’sinvestmentimpactsinChina.Thistelephone-interviewfromCoca-ColatalkabouthowtheChineseinvestmentpoliciesinfluenceCoca-Cola’sinvestmentinChina,howtheChinesecurrentinvestmentenvironmenthelpsCoca-Cola’sdevelopinginChinaandmostlywhatkindofdetailedimpactstheCoca-ColabottlingsystemcreatedtoChina.AndthemostpartsoftheinterrelateddetaileddataaboutthesetopicsItalkaboutwithCoca-Cola’smanagerabovearecomefromthecompany’sinterior,besides,theminorpartofthedataarefromsomesecondarydatasourcesuchasthenewspaper“Chinainformation”andsomespeechbyChenWeiqi,thepresidentofCoca-ColaChineselimitedcompany.

DuetothenewpoliciesprovidedbyleaderDengXiaopin,theCoca-Colasystemre-enteringintoChinesemarketin1979andthissystemconsistoftheCoca-ColaCompanyanditsalliedbottlers.TheCoca-Colasystemhadinvested$billioninthelocaleconomyandbuilt28newbottlingplants.BecauseofthedifferencesbetweenChineseinvestmentandothers’,theCoca-ColatookafancytoChinesepotentialinvestmentenvironmentandinvestssubstantialfund.Thesefundsinclude37relativeissuesinvestments,whichthetotalamountwasbillionRMB.SincetheChineseenteringofWTO,theglobalbusinesssystemslikeCoca-Colamayhelpstimulateeconomicgrowth,employmentandtaxrevenue,evenmorethetechnologytransfer.ThenumberofpeopledirectlyandindirectlyemployedbyCoca-Colasystemisestimatedtohavebeen414,000.TotheChinesegovernmenttaxrevenue,Coca-Colacontributedalmost387millionRMBin1998.

92）Researchersusequestionnairetogaintheinformationthattheyneed,itisatoolthatcouldunderthecontrolintheprocess.ConsideringthetransnationalenterprisesenteredintoChina,thenormalpeoplehavethelargestrighttospeakthechangesofpeople’slivingstandards.Mypreparedquestionnairewasusedinagroupofpeoplethatinthebusieststreet,whichnamedHuangXinSouthRoadworkingstreet.Andmyexaminecontentmainlyaimatthepopulacelivingstandardsinresentyears.Indetails,theywereaskedinthisquestionnaireincludingpopulace’sincomesandexpenses,purchasingpowersanddeposits.ThroughthisanalysisresultsandtheinformationofGDPandemploymentrateinChina,IcouldfigureouttheChinesetransformation.
