LaserPrinters
Aphotoconductivedrumisinitiallychargedandthenahighintensitylaserbeamisusedtodischargeselectedareasonthedrum.Thesedischargedareascorrespondtothewhiteareasoftheprinteddocument.Tonerisattractedtopartsofthedrumwithahighcharge.Thedrumrotatesandtransfersthetonertothepaperwhichhasanevengreaterelectricalcharge.Finallyaheaterfixesthetonerontothepaper.LaserPrintersusealaserbeamanddrypowderedinktoproduceafinedotmatrixpattern.Theyproducesharp,crispimagesofbothtextandgraphics,providingresolutionsfrom300dpiupto1200dpi.Theyarequitefast.Theyareusedinbothsmallpersonalcomputersandmainframes.Thestandardofprintisverygoodandlaserprinterscanalsoproduceverygoodqualityprintedgraph.

Likelaseranddot-matrixprinters,ink-jetprintersalsoformimageswithlittledots.Charactersareformedasaresultofelectricallychargedorheatedinkbeingsprayedinfinejetsontothepaper.Individualnozzlesintheprintingheadproducehighresolution(upto400dotsperinchor400dpi)dotmatrixcharacters.Inkjetprintersusecolourcartridgeswhichcombinered,yellowandblueinkstocreatecolourtones.Thismethodofprintingcangenerateupto200cpsandallowsforgoodquality,cheapcolourprinting.
