Abstract:
NCEPADPGlobalSurfaceObservationalWeatherDataarecomposedofsurfaceweatherreportsoperationallycollectedbytheNationalCentersforEnvironmentalPrediction(NCEP).ThedataincludeslandandmarinesurfacereportsreceivedviatheGlobalTelecommunicationsSystem(GTS).Variablesrecordedinthereportsincludepressure,airtemperature,dewpointtemperature,winddirectionandspeed.PrecipitationdatahasbeendecodedfortheU.S.andCanada.Reportintervalsrangefromhourlyto3hourly.ThesedataaretheprimaryinputtotheNCEPGlobalDataAssimilationSystem(GDAS).

NCEPADPGlobalUpperAirObservationalWeatherDataarecomposedofglobalupperairweatherreportsoperationallycollectedbytheNationalCentersforEnvironmentalPrediction(NCEP).Theseincluderadiosondes,pibalsandaircraftreportsfromtheGlobalTelecommunicationsSystem(GTS),andsatellitedatafromtheNationalEnvironmentalSatelliteDataandInformationService(NESDIS).Thereportscanincludepressure,geopotentialheight,airtemperature,dewpointtemperature,winddirectionandspeed.Datamaybeavailableatupto20mandatorylevelsfrom1000millibarsto1millibar,plusafewsignificantlevels.Reportintervalsrangefromhourlyto12hourly.ThesedataaretheprimaryinputtotheNCEPGlobalDataAssimilationSystem(GDAS),whichisusedtocreatetheNCEPFinalTroposphericAnalyses(FNL).
