“Astheeconomywarmsup,wearemoreconfidentaboutShanghaiandthewholeChinaandweareworkinghardtogettheprojectrestartedassoonaspossible,”saidKatsuyukiTakeuchi,vice-presidentandgeneralmanageroftheShanghaiWorldFinancialCentreCompany.

Itsparentcompany,Japan-basedMoriBuildingCo.Ltd,establishedtheShanghaisubsidiaryastheoperatorresponsibleforthisambitiousproject.Thedesign,whichisundergoingrevisioninJapan,willaccommodateinternationalhigh-techbusinesses,departmentstores,artgalleries, 

clubsandafive-starhotel.UnlikethegloomyeconomiesoftheUnitedStates,EuropeandJapan,Chinaenjoysastronggrowthwithbrighterprospects,Takeuchisaid.

MorecapitalandbusinessesareexpectedtoflowintoShanghai,whichaimstobecomeaworldcentrefortradeandthefinancialindustry—withLujiazuiasitsshowpiece.

ThelayoutofLuijiazuiincludesthreetallbuildings,oneofwhichisthecompletedJinmaoTower,eachrisingabove400metres,asdesignedbylocalgovernmentafterholdinganinternationaldesigncompetitionearlylastdecade.Otherbuildingsnearbyfallinheightgradually,creatingaspecialshapeagainsttheskyline.TheShanghaiWorldFiancialCentrewillbebuiltasthepeakofthemountain.
