“Thisisaveryimportantdiscovery,”JamestownRediscoveryFoundationPresidentJamesHornsaidinastatement.“ThesemenwereamongthefirstfoundersofEnglishAmerica.”

About100peoplesettledalongtheJamesRiverinwhatwouldbecomethefirstEnglishsettlementin1607.Duringthattime,settlersinJamestownwerefacedwithfamineanddisease.ThecolonywasnearlywipedoutduetoconflictwithNativeAmericansintheareaandwithotherEnglishsettlers.

“Theylivedanddiedatahardtimeinthehistoryofthesettlement-whenJamestownalmostendedinfailure,”Hornsaid.“Thebonesofthesemenhelpfillinthestoriesoftheirlives.”
