Mostdaysyouwillbeoutontheboatwiththesharks,dependingonweather.Helpoutwiththefullrangeoftasksontheboats,andinconservationinitiativesonlandtoo.

Lastday:

OnthefinaldayofyourprojectyouwillbetakenbacktoCapeTownforyouronwardtravel.

AlthoughRobertFultondidnotinventthesteamboat,asiscommonlybelieved,heplayedanimportantroleinmakingsteamboattravelareality.HewasborninPennsylvaniain1765.Asayoungman,hesetouttomakehisnameasaportraitpainter.HiscareertookhimtoEuropeandintotheorbitofpeoplewiththepowertosupporthimpoliticallyandfinancially.

Fultondidn’tfocusentirelyonthesteamboat.In1804,hetestedthefirstsubmarinesuccessfully,whichhehadbuiltfortheBritishRoyalNavy.HisinventionwouldmakehimacelebrityuponhisreturntotheUnitedStatestwoyearslater.Fulton’spartnerRobertLivingstonobtainedanexclusivelicenseforsteamboatservicesonNewYork’sHudsonRiver.ItwastimeforFultontodeliver.
