Day3+:
Mostdaysyouwillbeoutontheboatwiththesharks,dependingonweather.Helpoutwiththefullrangeoftasksontheboats,andinconservationinitiativesonlandtoo.
Lastday:
OnthefinaldayofyourprojectyouwillbetakenbacktoCapeTownforyouronwardtravel.

Fultondidn’tfocusentirelyonthesteamboat.In1804,hetestedthefirstsubmarinesuccessfully,whichhehadbuiltfortheBritishRoyalNavy.HisinventionwouldmakehimacelebrityuponhisreturntotheUnitedStatestwoyearslater.Fulton’spartnerRobertLivingstonobtainedanexclusivelicenseforsteamboatservicesonNewYork’sHudsonRiver.ItwastimeforFultontodeliver.
Tobuildanefficient,reliablesteamboat,FultonusedaspecialEnglishsteamengine.Theship’sbottomwasflatanditssternwassquare.ThesteamboatClermontmadeitsdebut(首次亮相)onAugust17,1807,steaminguptheriverfromNewYorktoAlbany,anditsoonenteredcommercialservices.ThehillyterrainofNewYorkmadewatertransportfasterthanlandtransport,andFulton’sboat—formerlyknownasthe“NorthRiverSteamboat”—wasahit.Withinfiveyears,FultonwouldberunningservicesonsixmajorriversplustheChesapeakeBay,andbringingreatprofits.
