sClinicalGuidelinesSubcommittee,ClinicalAffairsCoreCommittee,andcosponsoringassociations,anditwaspostedonTheEndocrineSocietywebsiteformemberreview.Ateachstageofreview,theTaskForcereceivedwrittencommentsandincorporatedneededchanges.Conclusions:

ConsideringthatvitaminDdeficiencyisverycommoninallagegroupsandthatfewfoodscontainvitaminD,theTaskForcerecommendedsupplementationatsuggesteddailyintakeandtolerableupperlimitlevels,dependingonageandclinicalcircumstances.TheTaskForcealsosuggestedthemeasurementofserum25-hydroxyvitaminDlevelbyareliableassayastheinitialdiagnostictestinpatientsatriskfordeficiency.TreatmentwitheithervitaminD

Theconsensusalgorithmforthemedicalmanagementoftype2diabeteswaspublishedinAugust2006withtheexpectationthatitwouldbeupdated,basedontheavailabilityofnewinterventionsandnewevidencetoestablishtheirclinicalrole.Theauthorscontinuetoendorsetheprinciplesusedtodevelopthealgorithmanditsmajorfeatures.Wearesensitivetotherisksofchangingthealgorithmcavalierlyortoofrequently,withoutcompellingnewinformation.AnupdatetotheconsensusalgorithmpublishedinJanuary2008specificallyaddressedsafetyissuessurroundingthethiazolidinediones.Inthisrevision,wefocusonthenewclassesofmedicationsthatnowhavemoreclinicaldataandexperience.

Theepidemicoftype2diabetesandtherecognitionthatachievingspecificglycemicgoalscansubstantiallyreducemorbidityhavemadetheeffectivetreatmentofhyperglycemiaatoppriority（1–3）.Whilethemanagementofhyperglycemia,thehallmarkmetabolicabnormalityassociatedwithtype2diabetes,hashistoricallytakencenterstageinthetreatmentofdiabetes,therapiesdirectedatothercoincidentfeatures,suchasdyslipidemia,hypertension,hypercoagulability,obesity,andinsulinresistance,havealsobeenamajorfocusofresearchandtherapy.Maintainingglycemiclevelsasclosetothenondiabeticrangeaspossiblehasbeendemonstratedtohaveapowerfulbeneficialeffectondiabetes-specificmicrovascularcomplications,includingretinopathy,nephropathy,andneuropathy,inthesettingoftype1diabetes（4,5）;

intype2diabetes,moreintensivetreatmentstrategieshavelikewisebeendemonstratedtoreducemicrovascularcomplications（6–8）.IntensiveglycemicmanagementresultinginlowerA1Clevelshasalsobeenshowntohaveabeneficialeffectoncardiovasculardisease（CVD）complicationsintype1diabetes（9,10）;

however,currentstudieshavefailedtodemonstrateabeneficialeffectofintensivediabetestherapyonCVDintype2diabetes
