HowardCarterdidnotgotoschool,butlearnttodrawfromhisfather,whowasanartist.Hewasbrightandcuriousabouttheworldoutsidehishometown.In1891,attheageof17,hesetsailforAlexandria,Egypt.Bythe1920s,hehadbecomeanexplorer,searchingforthetombsoftheEgyptiankings.Hefoundseveralimportantones.Insidethetombs,hediscoveredagreatfortuneinjewelsandgold,alongwiththepreservedbodiesofdeadkings.Thesepreservedbodiesareknownasmummies.

In1922,Ho

wardCartermadehismostamazingdiscoveryofall,intheValleyoftheKings,inEgypt.HehadreceivedmoneyfromLordCarnarvon,aBritishmanwhowasveryinterestedinEgypt.Carter'

steamwasworkingataplacenearthecityofLuxor.There,theycameacrossthetombofKingTutankhamun.Itwasthemostimportanttombthathadeverbeenfound.‘Thetombcontainedmoretreas

urethananyofushadeverseenbefore,aswellasthemummyoftheking,'
