ForKeflezighi,runninghasalwaysbeenawayoflife.“It’swhatIlovetodo,andit’swhoIam,”hesaid.Keflezighiwonthe2014BostonMarathonandthe2009NewYorkCityMarathon,andgotasilvermedalatthe2004SummerGamesinAthens,Greece.

Keflezighiretiredfromcompetitionafterthe2016NewYorkCityMarathon.Buthedecidedtorunonelastrace.“I’mhappywithmyachievements,”hesaid.“Now,I’llhelpothersreachtheirgoals.”

OnthemorningofApril16,Keflezighisetoutfromthestartinglinewithmorethan27,000othermarathoners.TheyracedthroughBoston’shillystreets,heavywindsandcoldrain.Thosewere“themostdifficultconditionsI’veeverrunin,”Keflezighisaidaftertherace.

Keflezighifinishedin3hoursand13seconds,nearlyanhourslowerthanhiswinningtimeatthe2014BostonMarathon.Butthisyear,Keflezighiwasrunningnotfortheprize,butforacause.“MarathonMeb”,asheiscalled,isstillspurringonothers.Hesaid.“Weallhavedifficultsituations,butaslongaswecanovercomethose,there’sthefinishlinewaitingforus.”
