Officialssayclimbersareresponsiblefortheirowntrash.“Wearenotaskingclimberstopickuptrashleftbysomeoneelse,”saidtheNepalTourismMinistry.“Wejustwantthemtobringbackwhattheytookup.”

Morethan4,000peoplehavereachedthe29,035-footsummit（顶峰）inmorethan60years.Leavingtrashalongthewayhelpsclimberskeeptheirbagslightsotheyhaveenergytoreachthesummit.“ThetrashprobleminQomolangmaisnotnew.Burlakotisays.“Whenthepeoplestartedtoclimbthemountain,theystartedtoleavetheirgarbagethere.Theyhaveleftbehindbottles,foodboxesandequipment.

ThenewrulecameintoeffectinApril,2014.Tomakesureitisfollowed,climberswillhavetodepositmoney（交保证金）beforetheyclimb.Oncetheyclimbbackdownthemountain,officialswillcheckclimbersatareturncamptomakesuretheyhavetherequired18poundsoftrash.Iftheydo,theirmoneywillbereturnedtothem.Iftheydonot,climberswillnotreceivetheirdepositandtheywillnotbegivenapermitthenexttimetheywanttoclimbQomolangma.
