ThesatellitewaslaunchedonaLong-March-3Ccarrierrocketat11:
41p.m.,sourcesatthecentretoldXinhuaNewsAgency.Thesatelliteseparatedfromtherocket26minutesafteritslaunchandwasthensuccessfullydeliveredintoageostationarytransferorbit(地球同步转移轨道).
DevelopedbytheChinaAcademyofSpaceTechnologyundertheChinaAerospaceScienceandTechnologyCorporation,thesatelliteisthecountry’sseconddatarelaysatellite.Thefirst,TianlianⅠ-01,waslaunchedonApril25.2008.
ThetwosatelliteswillformanetworktoimprovecommunicationsbetweenChina’sspacecraftandbasesonEarth,accordingtothecentre.Theywillalsobeusedtohelpthenation’sfirstspacedocking,scheduledforthesecondhalfofthisyear.
Asplanned,ChinawilllaunchspacemoduleTiangong-Ⅰ,whichwasdesignedasaplatformthatwilldockwithanunmannedspaceship,Shenzhou,forthecounty’sfirstspace-dockingmissionthisyear.TwomoreShenzhouspaceshipswilldockwithTiangong-Ⅰnextyear,andonewillbemannedbytwoorthreeastronauts,accordingtoChinaMannedSpaceEngineeringOffice,whichwasthemainuseroftheTianlianⅠseriesdatarelaysatellites.
“Thenewsatellitecancoveragreaterareatotrackandcommandthecountry’sspacevehiclesinlow-Earthorbits,suchasmannedspacecraftandremotesensingsatellites,fromahigherpositioninouterspace.Onlythreesatellitesofthiskindareneededtoformaglobalcommunicationnetwork,andChinahastwonow.”PangZhihao,aresearcheranddeputyeditor-in-chiefofSpaceInternational,said.
