Sheworkedtirelesslyinthestudio,focusingonwhatherinstructorwantedfromher.“Atthetime,herfootwouldn’tfullyrestonthefloor,”explainsSchlachte.“That’swhyshecouldn’tstandonherown,therewasnosupport.”Schlachtepushedherstudent,explainingtoHansenthatherbrainhasneuroplasticity(可塑性)soeventuallyitwillreceivethemessage.

Therewasasignificantdifferencebetweenthegroups.Thoseinthehigh-distractionconditionate69percentmoresnacksthantheno-distractiongroup,andthoseinthelow-distractiongroupeating28percentmore(thanthoseintheno-distractiongroup).

Asecondexperiment,involvingafurther63people,wassimilar,butinvolvedwatchingTV(inthedistractioncondition)andeatingsoupandbread.ThisfoundthatthosewhowatchedTVwhileeatingtheirlunchate19percentmorebiscuitslateronthanthosewhohadeatentheirmealwithoutanydistractions.
