Therewasasignificantdifferencebetweenthegroups.Thoseinthehigh-distractionconditionate69percentmoresnacksthantheno-distractiongroup,andthoseinthelow-distractiongroupeating28percentmore(thanthoseintheno-distractiongroup).
Asecondexperiment,involvingafurther63people,wassimilar,butinvolvedwatchingTV(inthedistractioncondition)andeatingsoupandbread.ThisfoundthatthosewhowatchedTVwhileeatingtheirlunchate19percentmorebiscuitslateronthanthosewhohadeatentheirmealwithoutanydistractions.
Athirdexperimentwasalsocarriedout,inwhich45normal-weightpeoplewereallocatedtothreegroups.Thefirstlistenedtoanaudioclipinstructingthemtoimaginetheywerewatchingthemselveseat—makingthemextremelyfocusedontheirownfoodintake.Thesecondlistenedtoaclipinstructingthemtoimaginetheywerewatchingacelebrity—specificallyDavidBeckham—eat(makingthemstillfocusedonthefood,buttoa
