Attheageof22,hemovedbacktoLeidenandbegantogethisownstudents.OneofhisstudentswasthefamousartistGerritDou.In1631hereturnedtoAmsterdamwherehebecamethemostpopularportraitpainterinHolland.RembrandtmetSaskiaandmarriedherin1634.Shewasacousinofaverysuccessfulartdealerandshehelpedhimtomeetwealthypeoplewhomissioned(委任制作)manypaintingsfromhim.Heusedherasamodelinmanyofhispaintings.
