Thefactisthateverydayitseemsthatcomputerstakecontrolofanotherareaofourlives.Somefactoryjobsarenowdonebyrobotsandtherobotsarecontrolledbycomputers.Ourbankaccountsaremanagedbycomputers.Attheairport,ourticketsaresoldbyacomputer.Certainly,manyoftheseoperationsaremademoreefficientbycomputers,butouradmirationissometimesmixedwithunsafefeelings.Andthislackofsafetyiscausedbythefactthatwedonotknowhowcomputersdothesethings,andwereallydon’tknowwhattheymightdonext.

Butwecanfindouthowcomputerswork,andonceweunderstandthem,wecanusecomputersinsteadofworryingaboutbeingusedbythem.Today,thereisanewgenerationofcomputerwizards(奇才)whoknowexactlyhowcomputersgetthingsdone.Theseyoungmenandwomen,usuallyuniversitystudents,arehappytositforhours,sometimesfordays,designingprograms,noteating,notsleeping,butdiscoveringwhatcanbedonebythesewonderfulslaveswhichtheyhavelearnedtocontrol.Thesecomputerwizardshavelearnedtousethecomputerandsearchfornewtasksfortheirmachines.
