SometimeintheeveninghoursonMarch24th,
Ireceivedacallfromoneofmytopsideguards,theFlightSecurityController,
statingthattheyhadbeenobservingstrangelightsintheskymakingoddmaneuvers
andwantedtoreportit.
Ithoughtitwaskindaofstrangereport,butItookitseriously.
Youhavetounderstand,wewereprotectingnuclearweaponsandwe…we…
thereportswegenerallygotwereveryprofessional.
Atanyrate,Ikindofdismissedthecall.
Hecalledbackaboutfiveminuteslater.
Thistime,hewasscreamingintothephone,sayingthey’relookingatanobjectobject,
aredglowingobjecthoveringjustaboveourfrontgate.
Thisobjectwasabout30feetindiameter.
Hecouldn’tmakeouttoomuchofthedetailsoftheobject–
onlythatitwaspulsatingand
hehadalltheguardsoutthere.Hewasveryfrightened,
wantedmetogivehimdirection.

justasItoldhim,
ourmissilesbegangoingintowhat’scalleda‘No-Go’conditionorunlaunchable…
essentiallytheyweredisabled,
whilethisobjectwasstillhoveringoveroursite,
ourlaunchcontrolfacility.
Atthatpoint,wewentthroughourprocedures.
Hereportedto,backtothecommandpost,
theincident.
Wealsohadsomesecuritylights,
meaningsecurityincursionsatsomeofthelaunchfacilities.
So,Icalledtheguardbackupstairs
anddirectedthatasecurityteambesentout.
Atthispoint,theguardtoldmetheobjecthadleft
athighspeed.
Again,silent;nonoise.
Thesecurityguardsgotouttothelaunchfacility
andreportedbackthattheywereseeingthisobjectagain.
Theyalsolostradiocontact.

Weresetthesecurityalarms,
butthemissilesthemselveswerestilldisabled.
Wehadtocallinformaintenance,
maintenanceteamstocomeoutand
bringthembackuponalert.

WedidgettheAirForcetodeclassify
whatwe’llcallthe‘EchoFlightIncident’.

mycommander,FredMeiwald,turnedtomeandsaid
thesamethinghadhappenedatanothersite.
Atthetime,Ithoughthemeantthatevening,but

andhewasprobablyreferringtotheEchoFlight.
Atanyrate,
atthatpoint,whenwegottheEchoFlightIncidentdeclassified,
Iwasable,orIfeltIwasableable,tocomeforwardandstarttalkingaboutit
becauseIthoughtthat’swhereIwas.
Itwasn’tuntillaterIfoundoutitwasatOscarFlight,
andIrealizedthatnotonlyourflighthadgonedown
–tenmissiles—but
theEchoFlightalsowentdownaboutaweekearlieronMarch16th.
WehadhaveextensivedocumentationontheEchoFlightIncident
thatwereceivedfromtheAirForceundertheFreedomofInformationAct.

Backin1967,
Iwasofficerinchargeofthecommunicationscenter
atthe20thAirDivisioninGreatFalls,Montana.
IwasalsotheCryptoCustodian.
Iwasatopsecretcontrolofficerforthedivision
andIpassedoutnuclearlaunchauthenticators.
InMarchofthatparticularyear,
Icanclearlyrecallamessagecomingthroughmycommunicationscenter
whichbasicallysaidwhatBobhasalreadytalkedabout,
thataUFOdidinfactshutdown
severalmissilesilosinMontana.
Notbeingamissiletype,Ididn’tknow
OscarFlightfromEchoFlight,
soIcouldn’trelatetoanyofthosedetails.
Butthefactwasthatamissile,
missileswereshutdownbythem.
Lateron,inmid-70’s,about1975,
IwascommanderofaradarsiteinMaine,
whichwasadjacenttoLoringAirForceBase.
Periodically,mysecuritycopandI
metwiththeSACsecuritypolice.
AndontwooccasionsthatIcanrecalldistinctly,theytoldus
thatUFOswereseenoverthenuclearweaponsstorageareas
atLoringAirForceBasewhichwasaSACbomberbase,
assomeofyoumaywellknow.
Idon’tknowwhatthedetailswere.Idon’tknowifany
nukesweredamagedordeactivated.
Ineversawareportonthat,soIreallycan’tsay.
Thatishistory.
AfterretiringfromtheAirForce,IwenttoworkforBoeingasa
computersystemsanalyst.
Bobdidn’tmentionthis,but,
oneofmyfirstsupervisorsatBoeingwasRobertKaminski.

HewastheengineerselectedbyBoeingtogooutandinvestigate
theUFOsthatthemissilesthatwereshutdown.
He,livingclosebywhereIlivedinWashingtonState,

andtheydidnotgodownbythemselves.”
Hethenwentontosaythathalfwaythroughtheinvestigation,
theAirForcesentBoeingamessagewhichsaid,
“Stoptheinvestigationanddonot,repeat,
donotsendusareport.”
Hetoldmethatpersonallyontwoorthreedifferentoccasions
andnohesitationatall.

I’vestudiedUFOsforover60years,believeitornot,
andIamconvinced
thatsomebodyoutthereistryingtosendusamessage.
IfIknewwhotheywere,Iprobablywouldnotbehere.

Whichiswasnothingunusualuptothispoint.
Icalledmyteam,andIwentdownintothehangar.
AssoonasIgottothehangar,someacquaintancesofmine
approachedmeandsays,“Bob,doyouknowwhathappened?
”
“No,Idon’tknowwhathappened.”
Andhesays,“Well,amissile,aUFO
wassightedoverLewistown,Montana.”actuallyoverRoy,Montana,
Lewistownisnearesttownofanysignificance.
ButoverthatLewistown…Roy,Montanawhichis
thecenterofOscarFlight,and
whenthatUFO,atthesametimethatUFOwasoverthere,
allofOscarFlightwentdown.
Well,thatwashighlyunusual.
IwenttoJobControltoverifyit,andyes,theyconfirmedit.
AndIwaslookingatthestatusboardtheyhave,
wheretheyhaveamapofthewholewing.
Inoticedthateverythingwasgreen.
Allthelights—theyhavelightsforthemissilessites–
allthelightsweregreenexceptonecorner,
theandtheupperrightcornerwasallred.
AllofOscarFlightwasdown.
