Evenlargegovernmentorganizationshaverealizedtheeconomicbenefitsofbats.TheUnitedStatesGeologicalSurveyestimatesthatbatcontributionstopestmanagementsavethecountryatleast3.7billiondollarsperyear.Withoutthem,wewouldlikelyexperienceasharpdropinfoodproduction,whichwouldeventuallymakeitswayintoourweeklygrocerybills.

Asifthiswerenotenoughofanecosystemservicewereceive,batsarealsoofgreatimportancetoavarietyofplantspeciesthatarepreferentialtoitspollination(传粉).Otherwise,theseplantswoulddecreasetheirabilitytoreproducebyatleast50percent.
