Seventeen-year-oldMaggieMejiasaidthatwhileshehadnoengineeringexperience,thegirlsfiguredoutasateamhowtocreatetheprototype(雏形),usinghow-tovideosandbooksthattaughtthemhowtocode.Butthemostimportantlessonshe’slearnedoverthecourseoftheprojectisn’ttechnical.“I’velearnedalotabouthelpingothers,helpingthecommunityandshowingabetterworldtootherpeople,”shesaid.

ThegirlshavebeeninvitedtoMITtoshowtheirinvention.MardirosiansaysalltheparticipatingstudentshaveexpressedinterestingoingintoSTEM(science,technology,engineering,mathematics)fieldsandthatstudentsfromlowergradesarealreadyexpressinginterestinbeinginvolvednextyear.Shesays,“Manyofthemdidn’tthinkaboutengineeringbefore.Theythoughtmaybethey’renotmadeouttobeanengineer.Butworkingtogethernowtheyrealizethey’reallneededinthisfield.Everyonehasfoundtheirimportanceinthispicture.”
