---TheGreatWallofChinawasfirstbuiltfollowingtheunificationofChinabytheFirstEmperoroftheQinDynastyin221B.C.Itwasrenovatedandrebuiltinsucceedingdynasties.Initspresentform,itsubstantiallydatesfromtheMingDynasty(1368-1644).ItstretchesfromGansuProvincetoShanhaiguan,Hebei,windingcontinuouslyacrossnorthernChinaandtotaling6,700kilometersinlength.ThewallwaserectedtoprotectChinafromnortherntribes.
