Mannersarethestandardsofconductwhichshowtheactortobecultured,polite,andrefined.Theyarelikelawsinthattheycodifyasetofstandardsforhumanbehavior;yettheyareunlikelawsinthatthereisnoformalsystemforpunishingmisbehavior.Theyareakindofnorm.

Whatisconsidered“mannerly”ishighlysubjecttochangeintime,geographicallocation,socialclass,occasion,andotherfactors.

Mannersmattersomuchthatmanybookshavebeenwrittenonthesubject,advicecolumnsfrequentlydealwithquestionsonmannerlybehavior,andthatschoolshaveoccurredforthesolepurposeofteachingmanners

该句主干为“Theauthorsays…”。

宾语从句中主干为“therebe”结构,“reason”一词后是其定语从句。

“reason”的定语从句可以用that引导,也可以用why引导。

如:

Thereisareasonwhy/thatyoulovethismovie.

整个句子有三个分句,前两个是条件关系:

“if…he…,heshould…”;前两个和第三个之间又是因果关系,“because”引导的原因状语从句中“that”指“ontheinside”。

if条件句中的插入语“outof”意为“出于,由于”,例如:

isusuallyeasiertofollowrulesofsocialbehaviorthantodependonone’sowntaste.

在通常情况下,遵从社会行为规则要比坚持个人的喜好容易些

连词than连接两个不定式短语,表示两种行为“tofollowrulesofsocialbehavior”和“todependonone’sowntaste”间的比较。

注意than是并列连词,相比较的部分在语法结构上须一致。

如:

Theweatherhereismilderthanthatinmyhometown

Carsarefasterthantheywere50yearsago.

此句为复合句,since引导原因状语从句。

主句中用的是虚拟语气,wouldhavebeen表示过去可能发生的事。

tohavedone是动词不定式的完成式。

“Ishouldthink”是主句中的插入语。

在英语中情态动词除了can,may,should,might,would外,还有must,will,need,oughtto.等。

情态动词变否定句时,直接在情态动词后面加not.注意need的实义动词用法。
