Kaire'sloveforsnakesbeganwhilehewasworkingatafive-starhotelnearBombay."SnakeswerefrequentvisitorsatmyplaceinMatheran,"Khairesaid."Ihatedkillingsuchbeautifulcreatures,mostofwhichwereharmless.SoIstartedcatchingandreleasing(释放)themintheSahyadrihills.IoncecaughtasnakeandtookittotheHaffkinInstituteinBombay.Iwastoldthatitwaspoisonousandtooriskytobecarriedinthisway.Thehappeningincreasedmycourageandsobeganmyfascinationwithsnakes.”

KhairesaidhefirstthoughtofsettingupaworldrecordwhenhecameacrosssomereportsofPeterSnyemarisstayingwith18poisonousand6semi-poisonoussnakesinJohannesburg,SouthAfrica,for50hours.

“IthoughtanIndianresponsibletocreateaworldrecordinthisfieldasIndiaisknownabroadasacountryofsnakes,"saidKhaire.

So,forthreedays,KhairelivedinasmallglassboxfilledwithpoisonoussnakesatB.J.MedicalCollegeinPune,India.Whilerestinginachair,heoftenhadtodealwithsnakesthatclimbedontohim.Butafter72hours,Khairelefttheboxwithoutasinglebite.

Usingtheinitial(最初的)fundsfromhisgreatevent,KhairecreatedTheKatrajSnakeParkthatwaslaterknownasTheRajivGandhiZoologicalPark.Thisuniqueparkhelpsnestnearly160speciesofsnakesandotherwildanimals.
