ThisstudypresentsadetailedreportoftheprojectimplementedtosolvetheproblemthatsomeofmystudentsdonotliketodotheirEnglishhomework.BasedonthecharacterofEnglish,assigningschoolworkappropriately,whichnotonlyhelpsstudentgraspandstrengthentheknowledgeinbook,butalsoacquirethemethodstraininginanalysis,synthesis,analogy,deduction,andinduction.Soit’sabsolutelypossibletoaccomplishlightburdenandhighquality.Thoughwewillmeetmanydifficultiesinteaching,wewillachieveorapproachtothegoalbypaycloseattentionandworktrulyonit.

  Introduction

ThepurposeofmiddleschoolEnglishteachingistoimprovethestudents’fourskillsoflistening,speaking,readingandwriting,onthebaseofnecessaryphonetics,largevocabularyandgoodgrammar,butthisisnotthefinalpurpose.Thefinalpurposeistolotletstudentsbeabletousethelanguage.

 Inmyteachingexperience,thereisoneproblemthatsomeofmystudentsdon’tlikelearningEnglish.Theythinkthatit’shardtolearnEnglish.Thestudentscomplainthattheirclassesarebecomingmoreandmoreboring.Andsomestudentsdon’tlikedoingthehomework,evencan’tdotheirhomeworkbythemselves.Someofstudentscomplainthehomeworkistooeasy,butsomeofstudentscomplainthehomeworkistoohardtodo.Iwanttoinvestigatethisproblemandfindoutsomesolutionstotheissue.

 Thisispartiallybecauseofourexaminationsystem,andpartiallyoftheteachingmethod.Wearenotabletochangetheexaminationsystem,butwecanimproveourteachingmethod.Inthisproject,Ihaveusedsomenewteachingmethodsofschoolworkassignmentthatprovidedstudentswithsomenewactivitiestotrytochangethesituation.BeforeandafterIcarriedoutmyteachingplan,Ihavecollecteddatabyquestionnairesandobservations.

 Problemanalysis

BeforeIbegantodesignmynewteachingplan,IwouldliketofindoutthereasonswhysomeofstudentsfeltitdifficulttocommunicateinEnglish,Itriedtofindtheanswersfromthreeaspects:

IhavetaughtEnglishfortwoyears.Afterreflectingmyteachingexperiences,IfoundIdidn’tspendmuchtimeinthemethodofhomework.Ididn’tpayenoughattentiontoit.Ionlyletstudentscopythenewwordsandphrases.SomeofmystudentsarequitegoodatEnglish,someofthemareaveragestudentsinEnglish,andothersaren’tgoodatEnglish.Sosomeofthemcomplainthehomeworkistooeasytodo.ButifIletthemdosomeexercises,someofthemcomplainitistoohardtodo.Andtheycan’tfinishtheirhomeworkbythemselves,andsomeevencopyhomework.

 InQuestionnaireOne(AppendixA),IconcludedwhatthestudentsthoughtofEnglish.Thefollowingwerethemainreasonswhytheydidn’tlikeEnglish.Someweakstudentslackconfidence.TheythoughttheirEnglishwaspoorandtheywereafraidofmakingmistakesandbeinglaughedatbyothers.Somethoughttheirpronunciationandintonationwerepoor,whichpreventedthemfrombeingwillingtospeakEnglish.

 Somestudentsthoughtthehomeworkinthetextbookgiveswasnotuseful.Theycouldn’tuseitintheirreallife.Andsomestudentsthoughthomeworkwastocopythewordsandphrasesandwasverysimple.

 Thewayoftraditionalschoolworkassignment,whichtranscribeswords,phrases,eventextstothefirstimportanceinunify,neglectsthecultivationofstudentsinacquiringknowledgeandability,andleadsstudentstoapassivepositionandmakesthemeasytobecomeastudy“machine”.Thiswaywillmakethemfeelstudy-weariness,reducetheschoolworkeffort,anddoharmtomasterknowledgeinternalrelationanddeveloptheirintellect.
