Buthardworkdonewellwassomethingheunderstood,evenifhewasthefirstcollegeboyinhisfamily.Soonhewasmakingbonusesontopofhis$6.75anhour,moremoneythaneitherofhisparentsmade.Hisgirlfriendwasaround,andsowerehishometownbuddies.Andyactedmoreoutgoingwiththem,morerelaxed.PeopleinChilhowienoticedthat.
Itwasjustabouttheperfectsummer.Sothethoughtcrossedhismind:
maybeitdidnothavetoend.Maybehewouldtakeabreakfromcollegeandkeepworking.HehadbeengettingC'sandD's,andcollegeneverfeltlikehome,anyway.

Sohequitcollegeinstead,andwiththat,AndyBlevinsjoinedoneofthelargestandfastest-growinggroupsofyoungadultsinAmerica.Hebecameacollegedropout,thoughnongraduatemaybethemorepreciseterm.
Manypeoplelikehimplantoreturntogettheirdegrees,eveniffewactuallydo.AlmostoneinthreeAmericansintheirmid-20'snowfallintothisgroup,upfromoneinfiveinthelate1960's,whentheCensusBureaubegankeepingsuchdata.Mostcomefrompoorandworking-classfamilies.
