Theresearcherslistenedtorecordingsofwhalecallsmadebetween15and25yearsago,beforewhalewatchingbecamepopular.Thesewerecomparedtomorerecentrecordings.

Theyfoundthattheanimalshavestartedtosingforlongerthantheyusedto,likeapersonshoutingtoafriendacrossanoisyroom.

Itisbelievedthatthewhalesaretryingtocommunicatehuntingorbreedinginformation.Scientistssaidthat,ifthisisprevented,thefutureoftheworld’swhalepopulationcouldbeindanger,sincethenoisemaybedrowningoutimportantcommunicationaboutmates(配偶)orfood.
