“It’saprettystraightforwardhole.It’sadriver,someofthelongerguysmayhita3-wood.Ideally,youwanttoaimsomethingdownthatleft-centerandhitanicelittlepowerfadeandtrytokeepitoutofthatbunkerontheright-handside.Youcangetawaywithitfromthatbunkersometimes,butitisaprettybiglipandcanbeatoughspot.Dependingontheconditions,youcanhaveanythingfrom4-irontoan8-or9-iron.
“Thegreenslopesprettymuchback-to-front,there’salittletierinthemiddle-rightsection.It’soneofthemoreunderrated,difficultgreensoutthere.Youcanhaveputtsonthatgreenwith7to8feetofbreak.It’ssuchatoughgreen,especiallythefront1/3ofit.Ifyou’rehittingsomethingshorterandyouhaveanyspin,andyoulanditonthefrontthirdofthegreen,it’scomingoffthegreenquiteabit,toaspotthat’snottheeasiestup-and-down.Ifyoumissitlefttoaback-leftpin,you’recompletelydeadandhappytomakeabogey.”–RyanMoore

“No.2atAugusta,youcomeintoitasyourfirstrealbirdieopportunity.It’smaybeoneoftheeasierdrivesforalotofguys,youjustaimitatthefairwaybunkerandtrytohitadraw.It’satoughsecondshot.Youhaveadownhilllie,usuallyinthe240area,andthegreenisslopedseverelyleft-to-rightandyoudon’twanttobeabovethehole.Thetreesontheleftmeanyoualmostalwayshavetodrawitintothegreenandwithitbeingadownhilllie,it’stoughtodothat.You’llseeguys,ifthey’renotcomfortablewiththeshot,hititintothefront-rightbunkerorpushitdowntothebottomrightsideofthefairway,whereyou’llhavesomefairlyeasychipstosomeofthepins.Theonebunkeryoureallytrytoavoidisthefront-left.Tothefrontpin,ifyouhititanywhereleft,it’salmostimpossibletohititwithin20feetofthehole.There’salotofstrategyatAugusta,butespeciallyinthepar-5s.”– RickieFowler

“Ontheteeshot,italldependswherethepinis.Ifit’sleft,I’lllaybackfarther.Ifit’sontheright,especiallytheback-right,youcanhititupthereasfarasyoucan.It’stoughtomakesureyougetallthewaytotheback-rightpinifyoulayback.Fromupclose,youcanpitchitinthereandnotbeworriedaboutspinningittoomuch.You’retryingtoavoidshort-leftandthosebunkers.Ifyouexecuteitright,youhavealegitimatechanceatbirdie.

“It’sahardhole.You’rejusttryingtofindthefairwaybetweenthetraps(ontheleft)andthepinetreesdowntheright.Thebunkerisprobably20feetdeep.It’shardtogettothatbunker.There’sabitofroughthere,andthewaythathillsits,ifyou’vepulledone,itwillcomeupshortandyoucantrytohooksomethingaround(thebunker).Youdon’thavemuchofashotfromdownthere.Dependingonthewind,andiftheweatherisnice,youcanhaveanythingbetweena6-irontoan8-or9-ironin.Thatgreenisveryundulating.Thefirst15yardsofthegreenarereallyirrelevantbecauseofthose(steep,uphill)slopes.Itdoesn’tevenfeellikeit’sgreen.Youhavetolanditatleast15(yards)on.Ifyoucankeeptheballjustshortofthebackbunker,youcanprettymuchputttoanypin.It’sahardtwo-puttifyou’renotonthatflatpartintheback.”– TrevorImmelman,2008Masterschampion

“No.6isinterestingbecauseifthepinisfrontleft,youhaveachancetoputtheballonthegreenandfeeditdowntothehole.Back-leftisalmostimpossibletogettheballtoit.You’regoingobeputtingfrom20feetshortandrarelydoyougettheputttotheholebecauseit’squickandyoudon’twanttoknockitby.Thattop-rightpin,it’stoughtogettheballtostoponthatlevel.Forevery10goodironshotsI’vehitatthattopshelf,I’veprobablyonlyhadthreeorfourballsstoponit.It’sprobablyonlyabout8yardsby7yards,atthemost.Alotofthatisn’tuseable,becauseifyouhititontheback,it’sgoingtogoover.You’rehittingtoaverysmallarea,butmostguyswilltakeapopatit.Ifyoumissitalittlelong,I’dratherhavethatchiporputtfrombackthere.”– JimFuryk

“There’sabigbunkerontherightsidethatguysaretryingtoavoid.Anidealshotshapeisacutofftheteebutbeingapar-5guystrytotakeitoverthatbunkeranddrawittogetalittleextradistance.Ifyougetlucky,youcangeta5-or6-ironoutofthatbunker.Ifyou’reupagainstthelip,you’regoingtohavetohitwedgeout.It’sablindsecondshot.Youcan’treallyseethegreen.There’ssometreesupontheleftthatyouaretryingtohookitaround.Thegreenisdiabolical.There’sabigridgegoingrightthroughthemiddleofthegreen,dissectingitintoafronthalfandbackhalf.Thefrontpinhaskindofabowleffectsoguyscanhititclose.Theback-rightpinistoughtogetcloseto.It’satoughtwo-puttjustaboutanywhereonthatgreen.It’sabigrisk-rewardpar-5becauseifyoudooverturnyoursecondshot,you’reintrouble.Ifyoumissitleft,it’simpossible;it’sprobablya1-out-of-10you’llgetitup-and-down.It’sallfairwaybetweenNo.8andtheninthtee,soyouhaveplentyofroomtobailoutright.”– BrandtSnedeker
