    Soonafter1770,JoseptPriestleydiscoveredagaswhichisnowcalled“laughinggas”.LaughinggasbecameknowninAmerica.Youngmenandwomenwenttopartiestotryit.Mostofthemspenttheirtimelaughing,butonemanataparty,HoraceWells,noticedthatpeopledidn'tseemtofeelpainwhentheywereusingthisgas.Hedecidedtomakeanexperimentonhimself.Heaskedafriendtohelphim.

    Wellstooksomeofthegas,andhisfriendpulledoutoneofWell'steeth.Wellsfeltnopainatall.

    Ashedidn'tknowenoughaboutlaughinggas,hegaveamanlessgasthanheshouldhave.Themancriedoutwithpainwhenhistoothwasbeingpulledout.
