anothership,theLynher,andsailedtothenorthcoastofWesternAustralia.AfterlandingnearCollierBayhisgroupwalkedinland.Greyandhismenweretotallyinexperiencedandlackedsurvivalskills.ThelocalpeoplewerehostileandGreywasinjured.Ittooktwoweeksbeforehewaswellenoughtotravel.TheydiscoveredandnamedtheGlenelgRiver.StephenRangeandMountLyell.Thelandwasnotsuitableforsettlement,soinApriltheysailedtotheislandcoonMauritiustogetsomerest.
GreyreturnedtoAustralia,andinFebruary1839hesailedfromPerthtoSharkBay.WesternAustralia.Histeamlandedwiththreewhaleboatstogonorthwards.Wheylosttheirfoodwhenonewhaleboatwasdamagedinastrongstorm.TheyfinallyreachedSharkBay,TheysetsailbacktoPerthbutbothboatsweredamaged.Aftermakingittoshore（岸）withverylittlefoodandwater.Hismenwerebadlyweakenedandonedied.Greypushedonaheadarrivedlater.Henotedthefertile（富烧的）areassouthoftheMurchisonRiverandpeoplebegantosettletherein1850.
