5Whenhisfirstbookoffairytaleswaspublishedin1835,Andersendidn’tthinkitwouldbesuccessful,butchildrenreadthestoriesandwantedmore.So,encouragedbytheirinterest,hebeganwhatweknowtodayashisgreatwork,for37years,anewbookofAndersen’sfairytalescomeouteachChristmas.Thebookswerefullofeverydaytruth,ofwonder,ofsadbeauty,ofhumor.Childrenandtheirparentshadneverreadsuchtalesbefore.
