ArecentsurveybytheU.S.DepartmentofEducation’sNationalCenterforEducationStatisticsfoundthatfrom1994-95to1997-98thenumberofdistanceeducationprogramsincreasedby72percent.Moreo-ver,anadditional20percentoftheinstitutions43plantoestablishdistanceeducationprogramswithinthenextthreeyears.

Theresearch44thatmorethan1.6millionstudentswereenrolledindistanceeducationcoursesin1997-98.Amajorpartofthisdistanceeducationisthroughtheuseofelectronicmedium.Thereisagrowingrecognitionofthefactthate-learningwillbe45tothesuccessofindividuals,organizations,communities,andeconomiesinthedawningknowledgeeconomy.

Sugar—FriendVSEnemy

A)Sugariseverywhere.It’sinourdrinks,it’sinourfoods,andit’shiddeninplacesweneverwouldthinkof.Manywouldcallsugartheirfriendintimeofneed,butinfacttheirso-called“goodfriend”couldturnouttobetheirworstenemyindisguise.Sugarformanyissomethingtheymayhavebeenbattlingwithforalongtime.Here’sasimplethree-stepprocesstohelpyoustarttowinbackthebattleforyourhealth.

B)Thefirststepistobeawareofwhatsugarreallydoestoyourbody.Mostpeoplewillsaythey“know”thattheyshouldn’thavesugar,buttheyreallycan’thelpit.Tomethatisalackoftrueawarenessofwhatsugardoestooneself.Idon+tthinkmanypeoplewillsaythattheywanttohurttheirbodyonpurpose,butunlesstheyknowit’sreallyhappeningtheywillcontinuedownthatroad.Sugarisslowertoimpactourhealth,andit,sthatslowdestructiveprocessthatisthemostdangerous.Unfortunately,mostpeopledon’tknowthedamageuntilithasalreadybeendone.

C)Sugarincreasesfatstoring.Possiblythemostimportanthormoneinthebodyisinsulin(胰岛素),whenitcomestoweightlossandhealth.Insulinisthemainhormonethatwehavefullcontroloverdailythroughourdietandlifestyle.Whenweeatsugaranditentersintoourbloodstreamtooquickly,wehaveaspikeinbloodsugarlevels.Nowintimesofhighactivityweareabletoburnitoff,butifwearesittingaroundthisisnotagoodthing.Soinresponsetothathighlevelofbloodsugar,thebodywillreleasemoreinsulinintothebloodstream.Insulinwillthentaketheexcessglucose(葡萄糖)andtrytofindaplacetostoreit.Ifyourmusclesareallfullorhaveinsulinresistance)thenthebestplacetoputtheexcessglucoseisfatcells.Wheninsulinishigh,thefatcellsaretoldtoshutdownanyprocessofreleasingstoredfatintothebloodforburning.Withchronichighinsulinspikescomesaresistancetoitbyyourcells,leadingtomoreinsulinproduction,leadingtomorefatstoring,andmoreresistance,eventuallygoingdownaroadofdiabetesandillhealthforthewholebody.

D)Sugaralsodisruptsnormalbrainfunction.Ithinkmostpeoplecanrelatetomoodswingsandenergyhighs/lowsthatcomeafterahighsugarmeal.Sugarcanalsobethesourceofmanypeople’sincreasedanxietyanddepression.Letusnotalsoforgetthekidswithever-increasingattention“disorders”andbehavioralissues.Sugarisnothelpingwiththat,either.Infact,therehavebeenmanystudiesthatshowwhentakingsugaroutofakid’sdietandincreasingfatintake,theirattentionabilityincreases,theirbehaviorchangesforthebetter.

E)Sugardecreasesyouroverallhealthandmakesyouagequicker.Toomuchsugarwillloweryouroverallimmunesystemincreasedestructiveinflammation,leadtoessentialmineraldeficienciesinthebody,feedbadbacteriagrowthinyourgutandotherwonderfulstuff.Agingisjustafancywordforthebodybreakingdownquickerthanitcanrepairitself,asthatiswhathappenswhenwegetolder.Agingalsoisacceleratedbytheincreasingrisksofalldegenerativediseasessuchasdiabetes,osteoporosis,heartdiseaseandcancers.Weareallgoingtogetolder,butitdoesn’tmeanthatwehaveto“age”quicker.

F)Thesecondstepistorealizeyouarein100%controlofyouractions.Thiscouldbethemostunderratedyetthemostimportantstep,aswearetheonlypersonwhocontrolswhatweputintoourbody.Everythingstartsinwhatwechoosetoputinourmouths.Somepeoplemaysaytheycan’tcontroltheirsugarcravings,butthatisalreadyadmittingdefeatandgivinguppowertosome“cosmicsugarinfluence”outthere.Wecanpassondessert,wedon’tneedtobuyacandybar,wecandrinkwaterinsteadofsoda,butthechoiceisourstomake.

G)Alsomanyliketocallitan“addiction”.Thisisjustanotherwaytogiveupyourownpersonalpowerofchoice.Whilesugarcanhave“addictivelike”qualities,it’snotsomethingthatyouownorisapartofyou.Fightthebattleandyouwillgetovertheaddictivefeelings,theywillgoaway.Butifyoucallitanaddictionandmakeitpartofyou,thenitisyourstokeepforever.Befreefromit,letgo.Takebackcontrolandanythingispossible.

H)Thethirdstepistojustlivethedailyjourneyonechoiceatatime.Lifeisjustaseriesofpresentmoments,andthechoiceswemakeinthosemoments.Solet,sjustfocusonwhatwecandorightnowinsteadofworryingaboutwhathashappenedinthepastormayormaynothappeninthefuture.“Now”isallwehaveandallweneedtofocuson.

I)Choosetoeatmorenaturalfoods.Choosewholefoodproteins,healthyfatsandnaturalsourcesofcarbohydrates.Ifitwasn’taroundathousandyearsagoorismadebyman(andnotnature),chancesareyoudon’tneedit.Notehowitsays“Choose”above,asitisyourchoice.Findthehiddensourcesofsugarsandremovethem.Sugarishiddeninplacessuchassauces,ketchup,soups,processedfoods,drinks,socalledhealthbars,andmore.Becomealabelreaderandseehowmuchsugaryouareconsistentlyputtingintoyourbody.Don’tfallforthemarketingtrickeitherof“lowfat”,becausethatusuallymeans“moresugar”.
