Later,Holonyakstartedlookingintohowsemiconductorscouldbeusedtogeneratelight.Butwhilehiscolleagueswerelookingathowtogenerateinvisiblelight,bewantedtogeneratevisiblelight.TheLEDsheinventedin1962nowlastabout10timeslongerthanincandescentbulbs,andaremoreenvironmentallyfriendlyandcosteffective.
