Todaywasnotabaddayforbegging.Themenwereabletocollectenoughforagoodmealatthecoffeeshopdownthestreetandafewcandlestolightuptheirshelterinthealley(胡同)behindthetrainstation.Asthecrowdbegantodiedown,theystartedtopackuptheirbundlesandheadfortheireveningshelter.

Justastheyweregettingreadytoleavethestreetcorner,theynoticedamanwalkingtowardthem.Hewasobviouslyawealthyman—theycouldtellthatfromthefinelytailoredbusinesssuithewaswearingandthegoldwatchchainadorned(装饰)hisleftpocket.
