Thisguideisdevelopedtofacilitateforcompaniesthatimportgoodsinthefieldsoftextiles,
clothes,leathergoodsandshoestocomplywiththechemicallegislationand
recommendationsinforce.Thisguidealsoincludesrecommendationsregardingpackaging
material.Byrequiringthattheirsuppliersfollowtheseguidelines,andtherebyavoiding
importingproductscontainingunwantedsubstances,humanhealthandtheenvironmentare
protectedinproducing,supplyingandimportingcountries.Importofthementionedproducts
from,inparticular,developingcountriestotheEuropeanUnion(EU)isalsofacilitatedand
promotedbythisguide.
Thedistinguishingpropertiesofthechemicalsandtheprocessesinwhichtheyareusedare
describedintheguide.
Thestipulatedtestequipmentiscommonlyoccurring,andthedetectionlimitsaregenerally

Alkylphenolethoxylates(APEO)andderivatives
ThemostcommonAPEOsareNonylphenolethoxylates(NPEO)andOctylphenolethoxylates
(OPEO).

100mg/kg(0.01%)fortotalAPEOisregardedasunintended
residues(contaminants)whichcannotbecontrolled.
Properties:
Irritatingtoskin.Themetabolitesaffecttherespiratorysystem,
haveendocrinedisruptiveeffect(hormones)andaredangerous
fortheenvironment.Nonylphenolethoxylatesarerapidly
degradedto4-nonylphenol,whichisevenmoredangerousfor
theenvironment.Asimilarenvironmentaldangeristhe
degradationofoctylphenolethoxylateinto4-octylphenol.
