　　edinthebuddhistcircleofwutaimountain.xiantongtempleoccupiesalandof　andhas400housesand65hallsintotal.itwasinitiallybuiltintheeleventhyearofyongpingperiod,easthandynastyandhasahistoryofnearlyXXyearstodate.sincethepeakofposatopisverysimilartothevulturepeakofindia（theplacewheresakyamunitaughtscripturesofhisdisciples）,itwasnamedlingjiutempleafterthenameofthemountainlatermingemperorofhandynastyaddedtwocharacters“dafu”inchinese（meaninggrandnessandcreditability）before“lingjiutemple”sothatthecompletenameoftemplewasdafulingjiutemple.itwasrebuiltinxiaowenemperorperiodofnorthweidynastyanddividedinto12courtyards.itwasalsocalledgardentemplebecauseofthegardeninfront.later,itwarrebuiltonceagainbytaizongemperoroftangdynastyandrenamedgreathuayantemplebywuzetianbecausethenewlytranslatedhuayanscriptureswerecollectedhere.itfinallywasgrantedahorizontalboard“largexiantongtemple”byzhuyuanhang,thetaizuemperorofmingdynasty[belltower]belltowerisoftwo–storeyedandthree-eavestructure,andonthebeaminthetowerishungabronzebell,thelargestoneinwutaimountain.suchbellwascalledlongringingbellandalsocallednetherworldbellandcastinjulyoftheforty-eighthyearofwanlyperiod,mingdynasty.withaweightofupto[dragonandtigertablets]thereisnoheavenkinghallbutonlytwopiecesofstonetabletsinxiantongtemple,thedragonandtigertabletsweseenow.thesetwotabletshavetheimpliedmeaningthatdragonandtigerisguardingthegateandthereisnoneedtotroublethefourmainheavenkings.[frontcourtyard]thetabletboard“rosycloudsdecoratedheavencity”ingoldcharactersonthetopofgatewaspersonallywrittenbyqinanlongemperor.inthehallareworshipped3statuesofbodhisattvas,withguanyinbodhisattvainthemiddleandwenshubodhisattvaandpuxianbodhisattvaonbothsidesseparately,soitwasalsocalled“three-main-scholarhall”itwasalsocalledscripturecollectionhallbecausescripturebooksarefullyplacedonbothsides.ineachoftheleftandrighttabletpavilionsoutsideguanyinhallisatablet.thetwotabletpavilionsarecompletelythesameinsizeoftablet,shapesystemandpattern,onepieceengravedwith“tabletinscriptionofxiantongtemplepersonallywrittenbyemperor“andtheotherbeingcharacterlessandcalledcharacterlesstablet.thestonetabletsofwutainmountainareroughlydividedintoimperialtablet.officialdocumenttablet,meritsandvirtuestablet,eventrecordkeepingtablet,poemandwritingtablet,tombtabletandthespecialbuddhafoottabletandcharacterlesstablet.amongthespecialcharacterlesstabletsathome,threepiecesaremostattractive,iethefirstisthecharacterlesstabletleftonthetopoftaishanmountainforguardingagainstthesixstatesafterqinshiemperordefeatedthesixstates;thesecondisthecharacterlesstabletsetupbywuzetianatqiantombinxi’an,meaningthatmeritsanddemeritsaswellasrightandwrongwouldbeleftbehindtothelatergenerationstocommentandnohandwritingwasleft;thethirdisthecharacterlesstabletweseejustnow,whichwassetupbykangxiemperor.thecharacterlessofthetabletseemedtopraisethatxiantongtemplewassograndandmagnificentandbuddhismwassobroadandprofoundthatitwasdifficulttoexpresstheminwritten　recordin“annalsofcoolmountain”,underthetwopiecesofstonetabletsweretwocircularwaterponds.accordingtolegend,afterkangxiarrivingatwutaimountainatthattime,assoonasheenteredxiantongtemplehesawatfardistancethatthedecoratedarchonposatoplookslikeabigdragon-head.thetwowoodpoleslooklikedragonhorns,andthe108flightstepslooklikedragontongue
