Inartfield,thedevelopmentofModernArtisaprocessofrejectingtraditionsandbuildingupthemovement’sdistinctivemanifesto.MonetandSeurat,twogreatartists,createdImpressionismwhichmarkedthebeginningofModernArtrevolution.RespondingtotheIndustrialRevolution,Monet’spaintings,notusinglinearperspectiveorcorrectshadingswhicharethetwobasicelementsinAcademicArtprinciplecreatedbyartistssuchasdaVinciandRaphaelinRenaissance,focusoncapturingthemomentaryfeelingofimagesinordertoevoketheviewers’feelingofthefast-paceofmodernization.ThesamewithMonet,SeuratusedPointillism,whichisusingsmalldotstocreateuniqueopticalsensationsforviewers,inordertoshowthescientificandrationalqualityofartbecauseatthattimealotofscientistswereinterestedintheprincipleoflight.Learningfromtraditions,thesetwoinnovativeartistscreatednewworldofart,givingthelaterartistshopethatthereweregreatspacetoexploreinmodernartfield,provingmoreaestheticvaluesandenjoymentforviewers. 

Additionaltotheinnovationofart,thegroundbreakingprogressesinsciencearealwaysresultedingreatscientists’creativeimaginationsandmeticulousverification.WhenthechemicalfieldofOrganicChemistrycreated,hundredsofscientistsweredoingresearchinfindingoutthestructureofbenzene.Thinkingaboutthisquestiondayinanddayout,onenighttheGermanchemist—Kekulefinallydreamedthatthestructureofbenzenewasaringwhichwascompletelydifferentfromotherfamousscientistswhothoughtthatthestructureshouldbealine,assameasthestructuresofotherorganics.However,notafraidtofightagainstthenorm,Kekulebelievedinwhathedreamedanddidthousandsofexperimentstoprovehishypothesis.Aftermanyyears’persistentefforts,Kekuleverifiedhisseeminglyunrealisticassumption,becomingoneofthegreatestrevolutionaryscientistsinscientifichistory.Thissignificantfindingacceleratesthedevelopmentofchemistryandbringsmoreconvenienceforeverydaylife.

Hadnottheseiconoclastsbrokendowntheconventionsofauthority,ourlifewouldnotbeascolorfulandconvenientasnow.Itisavaluablepersonality,encouragedinbothpastandfuture,thatweshouldquestioningpeopleinchargeinordertoformnewideasanddecisionstomakeourlifebetter.

Anotherpersonwhostimulateshiscreativityinsideclosed-doorisLudwigvanBeethoven,themostsuccessfulmusiccomposerin18thcenturies.Heexperiencedabigheavydifficultyformusicians-thedeaf.Hestartedtolosehearingin1801,whenhewasonly31,andhecompletelylosthearingin1819,whenhewas49.Howeverhehadexhibitedalastingeffortonmusiccreation;thedeafdidnotstiflehiscreativitybutfosteredit.Afterhisdeaf,hecompleted9symphonies,5pianoconcertos;andthemostfamousone-theninthsymphony,wasdonejustbeforehisdeathbutlongafterhisdeaf.Inhislife,doorshadalwaysbeenclosed,hisfatherdidnotpaymuchattentiononhistalentbutdependedmuchonhistalentshowformoney;hisfamilydisapprovedhismusicjourneytoVienna;hefailedonlovewithacharminggirl;hedidnotgetthenamehedeservedbecauseofhisintractabledisposition.Howeverthesehardsituationsmadehimasuccessfulman,ashisimmensecreativitywasderivefromhisagony.Beethovensucceededasamusicianduetohisgreatcompositionbuthealsohadhitseveraltimesonthelockeddoorwhichwasclosedforhimbutwasexhilaranttohim.

Inacloseddoorpeopleoftentendtofindwayout;bythisfindingtheirinnercreativitiesarearoused,andpeoplewillbenefitsfromthissealedsituation.Creativemenmusthaveovercometheharshproblemsthatleadtotheircreativities;weallgetinnovativenessfromthisclosed-door.

Lookingthroughtherealmsofartandliteracy,wecaneasilyfindcasesteachingustheessenceoftheoldsaying—“Honestyisthebestpolicy”.Underthesehistoricalpraises,honestyseemsreallybecomethegoldenruleinanycircumstances.However,lifeexperiencesdoteachusthatsometimestheeffectofagoodliecanoffsetthatofatruth.Thus,Ibelievethatratherthanbeingblindlyhonest,oneshouldalwaysbeobservantaboutthecircumstancesbeforeheorshemakesthemove. 

Whenthelong-termbenefitsoftellingatruthappearstooutweighthoseoftellingalying,itiswisetoupholdone’sintegrityandrevealthetruth.FromthehistoryofWorldWarI,wefindacompellingcasetosupportthispoint.InWorldWarI,therigidcensorshipinBritainbecamethemainhindranceofcommunicationbetweensoldiersandtheirfamilies.Infact,allthemailsfromthefrontlineofthewarhadtobefilteredbythemilitaryofficials,andonlycouldthosemailsnotmentioningthenegativesideofthemilitarylivesbeactuallysentout.Atthesametime,thelocalmediaalsoshamelesslyfilledtheirnewswithfancifulandcheerfulwords,describingthepoorlivingconditionsofthesoldiers.Unconsciousofgovernmentcensorshipandmediatricks,theBritishpeoplesupportedtocontinuethewarforthe“promisingvictory”.However,thegovernmentandthemediasoonrealizedthehugepricetheyhadtopayforitslies.InthenotoriousbattleoftheSomme,theBritishArmyhadnearly60,000casualties,thelargestnumberinanysingledayinthearmy’shistory.Besidesthisbattle,allthesubsequentbattlesandskirmishesindicatedBritainArmy’sinescapabledestinyoflosingthewar.ItwasimaginablethattheBritishpeoplecouldhaveprotestedagainsttheBritishgovernment’sdecisionsandpersuadedittowithdrawfromthewariftheBritishpeoplewerenotdeceivedwithinaccurateinformation.Nevertheless,theBritishgovernmentandthemedialiedtotheirpeoplewithoutanyconsiderationofthecircumstancesatthattimeandhistorytellsusthattheyhadtopaythepriceofdishonesty.
