Synopsis

ThefilmfromapointofviewtooverturntheSiouxIndians,describedthewhiteAmericanofficerDunbarafterthecivilwartotheWesternFrontinthevoluntary,Siouxwarriorsunlikelanguageculturemadefriends,whenbothsidesmoved.Later,theWhitearmywenttothelocal,butregardedhimasatraitor,violenceagainsthim.Dunbarfromnowonaswhiteastheshame,thoroughlytoSiouancamps,andinsistonhisownname"danceswithwolves".

LieutenantDunbaristheheroofthecivilwar,buthewantedtofindanewwayoflife,soherodethehorseFranciscocametothewestofmagic.DunbarwassenttothemostremoteoutpostbymajorFabroofFortHays,SeckVic".Dunbarlivedaloneinthedesertedoutpost,andthemagnificenceoftheprairieattractedhim.

MajorFabroDutchactsoon,hisdriverwasalsokilledandIndianpagnyfamily,Dunbarlostcontactwiththeoutsideworld.Thissideofthevastheavenwildernessislikehisheaven,Dunbarliveapeacefulandmonotonouslife,andalsoatwofrontlegsarewhitewolvesmadefriends,andnamedit"whitesox".

AfterDunbarandtheIndianSiouxhadcontact,lifewasnolongerquiet.TheSiouxtalkedaboutDunbar'sarrivalandarguedabouthowtodealwithDunbar.DunbardecidedtotaketheinitiativetofindtheSioux,onthewayherescuedaDutchacttoSiouxwomenstandingdanceboxing",shealsowasoriginallywhite,butwaslostlovedonesandSiouanadoption.Afterreturningthe"standingdancefist"totheSioux,Dunbarrodeaway.Dunbar'svisitgreatlymovedtheSioux,andtheheadofIndianagreedtopayareturnvisittoDunbar.Onthesecondday,severalIndianscametoDunbar'sstation.Inthisway,thetwosidesbeganaslowandfriendlycontact,andgraduallyDunbarbecameafriendoftheSioux,andhealsohadaIndianname,called"dancingwithwolves"".

HehuntedbisonintheridingandgunlawsSiouangreatlyagainsavedaboyinIndian,hesoonmovedintoSiouancamps,begantobecomeoneofthem.

Atthesametime,Dunbarandthe"standingdancefist"alsoproducedsincerefeelings.InamurderouspagnystruckDunbarwithitsfull,willshaosuoligunammunitionamongtheSioux,helpingthemtovictoryovertheenemy.Dunbaronceagainbecameaheroofthesioux.AllSiouanalladmireDunbar,theywishDunbarand"standdanceboxing"andcombinedwithlove.AndDunbarwasdeeplyawareofthesimplicity,kindnessandfriendlinessoftheIndians.HelivedfreelyandhappilyamongtheSiouxpeople.Inadditiontohiscomplexionandlooks,Dunbarwasacompleteindian.

However,assoonasDunbarwantedtogototheposttoretrievehisdiaryandstaywiththeIndiansforever,hefoundagroupofwhitesoldiersthere.WhentheysawtheIndianCostume,Dunbarshot.Franciscohorsedied,Dunbaralsobecameaprisoner.Dunbar'spleadingfortheIndiansbroughtrepeatedabusesandbeatings.TheyidentifiedDunbarasatraitor.SoDunbarneverspokeEnglishagain,buthespokeIndianlanguageresolutely.ThegarrisoncommandercouldnothelpbutsendateamofsoldierstoescortDunbarbacktoForthays".TheSiouxfoundDunbarwascaught,theydestroyedtheescort,rescuedDunbar.

Whenwintercame,theSiouxsettleddownintheravine.InordernottohurttheSiouxfriends,Dunbardeclinedtostay,withhiswifestandingdanceboxingleftSiouxvillage.Eighteenyearslater,theSiouxwasforcedtosignanagreementwiththegovernmenttogiveupthelandtheyhadpassedonfromgenerationtogeneration.
