CharlesBlackmanisfamousforhisbeautifulpaintingofdreams.In1956,heheardforthefirsttimeLewisCarroll’sextraordinarytaleofAliceinWonderland–thestoryofaVictoriangirlwhofallsdownarabbithole,meetsalotoffunnycharactersandexperiencesallkindsofthings.Atthattime,Blackman’swifewassufferingformprogressiveblindness.ThestoryofAlicemovingthroughthestrangesituations,oftendisheartenedbyvariousevents,wassimilartohiswife’sexperiences.Italsoreflectedsomuchofhisownlife.AllthiscontributedtothecompletionoftheAliceinWonderlandpaintings.
