FornowtheChristiancharityandprayers

Whohaunteachnookandcorner,fieldandstream,

Hadinhiscourtaboldknight-bachelor

Whoonedaywashawkingbytheriver,

Anditsochanced,ashewasridinghome,

Hemetamaidenwalkingallalone,

Andthereupon,thoughshefoughtlongandhard,

Theknighttookbymainforcehermaidenhood;

Andthisoutrageoccasionedagreatstir,

SomuchpetitioningofKingArthur,

Thattheknightwas,induecourseoflaw,

Condemnedtodeath,andwouldhavelosthishead

Accordingtothelawasitthenstood,

Hadnotthequeenandmanyanotherlady

Importunedthekingsolongformercy

Thatintheendhegrantedhimhislife

Andgavehimtothequeentodisposeof:

Eithertoexecute,orsparehislife.
