   Chinesepeoplewentthroughmanywarsin1927.Thecooperationbetweenthenationalistpartyandthecommunistpartybrokebecauseofthecounter-revolutionarycoupandmassacresplotbyJiangJieshiandWangJingwei,markingthefailureofthegreatrevolution.Thenationalistpartysuppressedtheworkers’andpeasants’revolutionarymovements.Theyalsomassacredthecommunistsandtherevolutionarypeople. Therefore,thewholenationwasunderthehorror.ThisisGuoShenyiwhosacrificedhislifeinthe“June,4thevent”inTonggu.However,thecommunistsandtheChinesepeopledidn’tgiveup.Theyburiedtheircomrade-in-arms,andwenttofightagain.

   From thefailureofthegreatrevolution,thecommunistsrealizedthatitisimportanttocontrolarmiesandtousearmedrevolutiontofightagainstthearmedcounter-revolution.Inordertosavetherevolution,thecommunistsagreedonthreepoliciesinmid-July,1927----launchingNanchanguprising,holdingconferencesandorganizingpeasants’uprising.

  OnAugust1st1927,thecommunistslaunchedarmeduprisinginNanchang,whichmarkedthejourneytofightagainstthenationalistpartybyforce.

   OnAugust3rd1927,China’spolitburodesigneddocumentationfororganizingtheautumnharvestuprisinginfourprovinces.Itdeclaredthatthecommunistpartyorganizationlaunchtheautumnharvestuprisingimmediately,seizepowerinruralareasandimplementagrarianrevolution.

  On August7th1927,thechina’spolitburoheldanimportantmeetinginHankou.Inthismeeting,theycorrectedChenDuxiu’sconservatismmistakesandagreedonthepolicyaboutagrarianrevolution,armedrevolution.Thismeetingmadegreatcontributionstosavingthecommunistpartyandtherevolution.

   After themeeting,ChairmanMaowentbacktoHunanprovinceasthecommissionerofthecommunistparty.FromAugust16thto30th,ChairmanMaogaveanimportantspeechinHunanprovincialcommittee.Hepointedouttheimportanceofthemilitaryequipmentinthewayofseizingpower.Healsoemphasizedthatthecommunistsshouldunfurlthebannerofcommunismtocallonpeopletolaunchuprising.TheCPCHunanProvincialCommitteedecidedtolaunchtheautumnharvestuprisingsinChangsha,Liling,Liuyang,Pingjiang,Xiangtan,NingxiangandAnyuan.ThefirstaimistocapturetheeasternHunanprovince,thenChangsha.TheleadingorganoftherevolutionwasthefrontleadercommitteeandthesecretarywasChairmanMao.

   Atthattime,thearmedmilitarycontrolledbythecommunistpartycamefromworkers,peasantsandminersandtheymadeupthemainpoweroftherevolution.

   InSep.1927,ChairmanMaoreachedAnyuanasthesecretaryofthefrontleadercommitteeandheldtheautumnharvestmilitarymeeting.Atthemeeting,theworkers’andpeasants’revolutionaryarmy1starmy1stdivisionwasfounded.Therearemorethan5000peopleinthistroop.ThecommanderinchiefwasLuDeminandthedivisioncommanderwasYuSadu.Thedivisionhasthreegroups.ThefirstgroupwasquarteredinXiushui,thesecondinAnyuanandthethirdinTonggu.Thecommunistpartydecidedtolaunchuprisingfromthreedirections—Xiushui,TongguandAnyuan.ThentheyplannedmilitarystrategyofcapturingChangsha.ChairmanMaodeterminedtocommandtheautumnharvestuprisinginperson.Fromthenon,theChinesehistoryturnedoveranewleaf.

LocatedinthenorthwestofJiangxiprovinceastheupperreachofXiushuiriver,TongguhasalonghistoryandisfamousforTongguStone.InHanDynasty,itwasapartofYuzhangprefecture.

Tongguisaveritablemountaincity.What’smore,ithasagloriousrevolutionarypast.SomeadvancedyoungpeoplewholearnedMarxismabroadwentbacktoTongguin1925.TheyfoundedthefirstbranchofTonggucommunistparty.Thisisthesiteofthebranch.Duringthegreatrevolution,theBranchorganizedtheworkersandpeasantstosetupcommitteestofightagainstimperialismandfeudalism.Facedwiththelandlords’exploitation,theworkerswhoworkedinthepapermillwentonstrikeforseveralmonthsundertheleadofthecommittee.Finallythestrikeendedinvictory.Itlaidagoodgroundworkforlaunchingtheautumnharvestuprising.

Afterthefailureofthegreatrevolution,LiuyangstategovernorPanXinyuangatheredarmedpeasants,makingupagroupof600soldiers.Inmid-August1927,thosewhomissedtheNanchanguprisingwerequarteredinTongguforbeingconsolidated.Accordingtothemilitarystrategy,thebattalionledbyWuZhonghaojoinedLiuyangworkers’andpeasants’volunteerteam.Thereforetheworkers’andpeasants’revolutionaryarmy1starmy1stdivision3rdgroupwasformed.Thisistheheadquarterofthegroup—XiaoYongwengMemorialTemple.

ThevolunteerteamlaunchedaseriesofpreparationsduringitsstayinginTonggu.Asthepictureshows,theyrecruitedsoldiers.Duringtheprocess,twooftherecruitersweremurderedbytheforceofthelandlord.AndthisrousedthepeopleinTonggutoindignation.MorethanathousandpeopleheldaceremoniousmemorialmeetingforthemartyrsinWuquHall.Therearesomecouplets,whichconveythatpeopleinTongguareneverafraidtolaydowntheirlivestooverthrowthereactionaryrule.

 Inordertoimproveofficers’andsoldiers’politicalconsciousness,thearmyinsistsondoingexercisesthreetimesadayandhavingpolitics\militaryclasses.NewrecruitsaretrainedinthesiteofWuquHall.

Whentheworker’sandpeasants’volunteerteamwerequarteredinTonggu,theycontinuedtomobilizethemassesandadvocaterevolution.Itlaidasolidmassfoundationandprovidedmaterialassuranceforthecomingautumnharvestuprising.

         When theLiuyangvolunteerteamwaspreparingfortheuprising,ChairmanMaowasonthewaytoTonggu.Unfortunately,hewascaughtintheTown-cleaningMovement.However,beforetheautumnharvestuprising,ChairmanMaoescapedtoTonggutactfully.

 OnSep.10th,1927,ChairmanMaoreachedXiaoYongwengMemorialTempletohavethestaffmeeting.Atthemeeting,MaoZedongconveyedthe“8.7”meetingspirit,theplanoftheautumnharvestuprising,themilitarystrategyanddeclaredtoadaptthearmy.Fromthenon,thepeople’sarmyledbythecommunistpartyhasgoneontheChinesehistoricalstagewithanewlook.

      On themorningofSep.11th1927,TongguCountywasimmersedinanairofexcitementforthesettingoutoftheworkersandpeasantsrevolutionaryarmy1starmy1stdivision3rdgroup.Bannerswithpictureofsickleandaxesealedwereflappinginthebreeze.PassionatesloganscouldbeseeneverywhereonQiaotousandbankalongDingjiangRiver.

     Flags wavinginthebreeze,riflesshininginthesun,ChairmanMaoarrivedatthereviewingstandtogetherwiththeleaderofthegroup.Aftertheordergiven,Mao’sfirstreviewoftroopsbegan.Dividedintodifferentelements,morethanathousandsoldiersinblueorgreypassedthestandwithhighspirits.Theremarkedthebeginningofthetroop’slegendarymilitaryjourneyunderthecommissionofChairmanMao.

     Passionate soldiersleftTongguforBaisha,LiuyangpassingthroughFengtian,ShiqiaoandShangzhuang.ThetroopswerewarmlysentoffbypeopleinTonggu.Theygotfood,waterandfreeguides.PeopleinTonggudidtheirbestinhelpingthetroops,asyoucanseeintheoilpainting.ThisbucketwhichbelongedtoafarmernamedZengYumeiwasthetoolusedforsendingwatertothegroup.

      About 4thatafternoon,thetroopsreachedHaoxi—fourkilometersawayfromBaisha.MaodecidedtodivideforcesintothreepartsinordertolaunchanattackonBaisha.Thearrangementcanbeseeninthemap.Onebattalionwaitedinthebackoftheenemy,anotherattackedthroughthemiddleandthethird,withthehelpofthemachineguncompanyrepelledthearmyinthefront.Afteranhouroffiercefighting,theinsurgentforcesreceivedtheirfirstvictory.Morethan10enemysoldierswerekilledandtherestretreatedtoDongmen. Asthephotoshows,theinsurgentforcewrotetheirslogansontothewallofBaishaprimaryschool.“Longlivetheuprsing!
