2.1.1TheMovieSelectionCriteria
Arcario(1992:

90),theselectionshouldbeverycarefulwiththecontent,withrespecttoaccentandwell-thought-outcriteriaandtheduration.Therefore,teachersshouldcarefullyselectmaterialsbytakingintoconsiderationtheirlanguage,themesandcontents,length,values,andfullymobilizestudents'initiatives.
Onthelanguage,formanyuniversitystudentsinChina,listeningisusuallytheirweakness.Therefore,teachersoughttochoosesomemovieclipswithclearerandauthenticpronunciationandrelativelysimpledialogue.Onlyinthiswaycanstudentslearnauthenticpronunciationandintonation,whileovermuchuncommonwordsorslangwillcausebarriersforstudentstounderstandingthefilmcontent,sothattheywillhaveakindoffearofdifficulty.Besides,thespeechspeedshouldbemoderateandcanunderstandmostofthedialogues.Forexample,theSoundofMusic,OneHundredandOneDalmatiansaresimpleandslowtounderstand.InFriends,therearemanysimplesentencestructuressuchasthereyougoorhereyougo.ThesesentencesseemnoclearChinesemeaning.Butstudentscanfeelthemeaningofthesentencesaccordingtoaspecificsceneinthefilms.Incontrast,GoneWiththeWindandWaterlooBridgeareclassics,buttheirpaceofspeechandaccentarebeyondthereachofstudents.
