Myphotos/videosaren’tuploading,howdoIcorrectthis?

ThereareseveralfactorstoconsiderwhenanEye-FiCardfailstowirelesslyuploadphotosandvideos.FirstoffitisimportanttonotethattheonlywayfilesareautomaticallyuploadedoffanEye-FICardiswirelessly.Itdoesnotmatterwhatkindofdevicethecardispluggedinto.Ifthecardisgettingpoweritwillattempttouploadfiles.Thisishelpfulinformationsinceitcanbeusedtohelpdiagnoseuploadfailures.

Canthecardmakeuseofanavailablenetwork?

WhenanEye-FiCardhaspoweritwillattempttouploadfilesviaaknownandconfiguredwirelessnetwork.Soitisimportanttobesurethecardcanmakeuseofanavailablewirelessnetwork.Re-addingaknownnetworkwillhelpyouconfirmthatthecardiswirelesslyabletoaccessandcommunicatewithyournetwork,thereforeconfirmingthatthecard’swirelessfunctionalityisfine.Ifyouareunabletoaddthenetwork,thenitisunlikelyphotoswillupload.

Makesurethecardhaspower

Ifyou’rehavingdifficultyhavingthecardtransferthefileswhileit’sinyourcamera,makesurethatthepower-managementsettingsofyourcameraareadjustedsothatitdoesnotpower-downimmediately.Mostcamerashavetheabilitytoadjusttheamountoftimebeforethecameracutspowertothecardslot.Makesuretoextendtheamountoftimethecamerakeepspowerontoaslongaspossibleviayourcamera’s“AutoPowerOff”setting.Thiswillinsurethatthecardhaspowerwhenitneedstouploadfiles.

Rangevariability

ThewirelessrangeofyourEye-FiCardforphotoandvideouploadsislistedas45feetindoorsand90feetoutdoors.Thesevaluesareunderidealconditions,camerabodies,walls,buildingmaterialsandotherelectronicdevicescancontributetoreducingyourcard’swirelessrange.Whenencounteringwirelessuploadfailuresfromwithinyourcamera,moveyourcameraclosertoyourwirelessrouter.Generallyifyouarewithin15-20feetinlineofsightoftherouteryoushouldbefine.Takeseveralpicsandwaitforaminuteortwotoseeifthecarduploads.Ifitstillfails,removethecardfromthecameraandinsertitintoyourcomputerviathesuppliedcardreader.Thiswillallowformaximumrangesincethecard’santennawillnotbeconstrainedbyacamerabody.

Networkandrouterfirewalls

SometimesarouterfirewallcancreateanenvironmentthatisdifficultfortheEye-FiCardtoworkin.Ifyouarecomfortableeditingthesettingsofyourrouter,youmaywanttotrytodisableanyfirewallthatyourroutermaybeusingtoseeifthisisaffectingyourcard’swirelessability.

Lastbutnotleast

Ifyouhavetriedalloftheaboveandstillhaveyettogetyourcardtosuccessfullyupload,itmaybebesttocontact Eye-FiCustomerCare.

 Whyaren’tmyphotosgeotagging（orattherightlocation）?

UsingWPStodeterminelocation

Eye-FiCardsuseWi-FiPositioningSystemfromSkyhookWireless,orWPS,forgeotaggingpurposes.WPSwhilesimilarisnotthesameastheGlobalPositioningSystem,orGPS,thatisusedinmostlocationdevices.WPSusessurroundingwirelessnetworksinsteadofsatellitestotriangulatethelocationwherethephotowastaken.Afterthephotoistaken,manythingsmusthappenforthelatitudeandlongitudetoendupintheEXIFdataofthepicture.

First,thephotoistaken.TheEye-FiCarddetectsthattherearemanyWi-FinetworksintheareaandrecordstheMACaddressesofthemall,whilenotactuallyconnectingtothem.ThoseMACaddressesarestoredintheEye-FiCardwiththepictureuntilthephotoisreadytobeuploaded.OncetheEye-FiCardcomesintocontactwithaconfiguredwirelessnetworkandthephotosbegintransferringtheWPSdataaresenttoSkyhookWireless.Atthattime,SkyhookWirelesstranslatesandtriangulatestheWPSdata,creatingalatitudeandlongitude.SkyhookWirelessthensendsthatinformationbacktothephotographwheretheEye-FiServerwritesthelatitudeandlongitudetotheEXIF.Atthispoint,thephotoisdeliveredinitsentiretytoyourcomputerand/oronlinephotosharingwebsite.

ImprovingGeotaggingfrequencyandaccuracy

Ifyouareinanareathatissparselypopulatedorhasaminimalamountofwirelessnetworksthephotoswon’tnecessarilygeotag.AnEye-FiCardmustbeinrangeofawirelessaccesspointthatisintheskyhookdatabasebeforeitcanprovidealocation.Thereareafewthingsthatyoucandoinordertoimproveyourgeotaggingperformance.

1.IfyouareabletofindtheMACaddressofanearbynetworkthatisnotgeotagging,youcanaddthenetwork’sphysicaladdresstoSkyhookWireless’database.

2.Addyourhome’swirelessnetworktothedatabaseusingthelinkfrom#1above.Pleasenotethatitcantakeupto6weeksforyoursubmissiontoappear.

3.Ifyouwanttocheckifyouareinamappedarea,locallyorabroad,youcanvisitSkyhook’swebsiteforacoveragemap.

4.GiveyourEye-FiCardtimeto“catch”anaccesspoint.Quicklyturningthecameraonandoffwillhelpconservebatterypowerbutitalsolimitsthetime
